2024 VRC Oaks Best Bet - Harlem Queen
Talent-wise, Harlem Queen has shown as much as any filly in this field and while looking forward is tough with early three-year-old's, I suspect that she'll be the best horse from the race.
The obvious query is 2500m and there isn't much in her breeding that supports a staying journey, however, all of these fillies are a complete unknown at the trip until they attempt it.
Harlem Queen brings the best form lines to the VRC Oaks, where the daughter of Brutal is back against her own sex after sticking on in the Spring Champion Stakes.
She recorded the second-fastest last 200m of that Randwick feature and prior to that, Harlem Queen went straight past Powers Of Opal (second fav) when runner-up in the Flight Stakes.
2024 VRC Oaks Next Best Bet - Treasurethe Moment
This Matt Laurie-trained galloper was looked after late when bringing up a hat-trick in the Wakeful Stakes and she appeared to holding Powers Of Opal easily on the line.
35 fillies have completed the Wakeful Stakes-VRC Oaks winning double and many other Oaks winners have also been produced from that main Oaks lead-up event in Melbourne.
With Street Cry and an Irish Oaks winner on one side of her dam's page and Media Puzzle (2002 Melbourne Cup winner) on the other, there's enough to suggest that she'll stay.
Wide draws over the 2500m starting point at Flemington can be tricky, but Treasurethe Moment has shown tactical speed in all prior outings over shorter trips.
2024 VRC Oaks Value Bet - Femminile
I'm a tad surprised that Dundeel hasn't sired an Oaks winner anywhere after entering stallion duties in 2014, but he's still produced multiple middle-distance/staying types.
Femminile caught the eye at start two when winning the Listed Oaklands Plate in Adelaide and the runner-up from that event bolted in with a Group 3 via his next appearance.
She was given time after the Morphettville triumph and with the VRC Oaks seemingly the target race for spring, this three-year-old has improved with every start this prep.
Following an honest second-up run over 1800m here, Femminile was back against her sex via the Ethereal Stakes at Caulfield and that 2000m effort should top her off nicely.
