This will be another stepping stone en route towards a Caulfield and Melbourne Cup, however, Warmonger is well and truly up to winning over 2000m.
While the penny dropped via a 2400m Queensland Derby romp in winter before a spell, there's much more this galloper than simply being a dour staying type.
As a genuine winning chance, he was up against it first-up vs Mr Brightside and Pride Of Jenni, but the four-year-old was strong late and that return followed good lead-up work.
Warmonger broke through over 1500m, while he arguably should've won an 1800m contest second-up last prep and on each-way basis, he appeals in the Turnbull Stakes.

He looked to be the next big thing from New Zealand after his three-year-old season, with Sharp 'N' Smart fancied in many spring futures last year after the 2023 autumn.
A three-time Group 1 winner (two over this trip), the son of Redwood took out the 2022 Champion Stakes over this journey, which he contested third-up.
Sharp 'N' Smart was off the boil last season, but his latest attempt when covering ground with 63.5kg on a testing track suggested that he may have turned the corner.
Graeme Rogerson always had him pegged as Cups prospect, although I suspect 2000m is just about his right distance and at his best, he has the class to figure here.
