Popular grey Classique Legend will take the somewhat unusual approach of defending his Everest crown first-up and has drawn barrier five in the 2021 Everest.

Back under the care of master trainer Les Bridge and with Kerrin McEvoy aboard, he has a jockey that is aiming for his fourth win in this feature via just its fifth running.

Nature Strip has been well beaten in both Everest attempts to date, but has returned to arguably career best form this year, winning three from five, including a TJ Smith victory third-up over the Randwick 1200m back in the autumn.

The seven-year-old will jump from gate 10 under James McDonald.

Masked Crusader (barrier nine), bounced back from his second-up defeat to take out the Premiere Stakes on October 2 and a strong speed is expected to suit the son of Toronado.

Eduardo (barrier seven) has won four of his last five starts, including the The Shorts on September 18, which is considered the key Everest lead-up.

The eight-year-old will again be partnered with Nash Rawiller.

Gytrash (barrier one) finsihed third in last year's edition and first-up The Shorts this spring, was unlucky when placing behind both Nature Strip and Eduardo.

The consistent South Australian sprinter has only finished outside the top three twice in 25 career starts and prior to September 18, was undefeated in three clashes against Nature Strip.

Chris Waller and Glen Boss combined to win the 2019 Everest with Yes Yes Yes, the only three-year-old to win the world’s richest race on turf.

They'll be attempting to the the same in 2021 with Home Affairs (barrier six), who is the sole three-year-old in the final field.

Another runner attemping to win The Everest first-up is Libertini (barrier eight), with the Anthony Cummings-trained five-year-old being the only mare in this $15 million feature.
