Swiftfalcon improved with every outing over his first campaign, which culminated with a 1400m Rosehill victory at start three before a spell and he's progressed as an early three-year-old.

The Team Hawkes-trained galloper won his first two spring attempts before a runner-up finish in the Group 3 Gloaming Stakes, where the gelding caught the eye late from back in the field via that key lead-up race.

Swiftfalcon is a $2.80 favourite with TopSport to win the 2024 Spring Champion Stakes.

Henlein ($4.20) also spotted them a start in the Gloaming Stakes before making inroads late and the step to 2000m looks perfect for the son of Dundeel.

His prior form reads well, which includes a runner-up finish over a mile behind an in-form Evaporate, who followed that victory up with a third-place finish in the Caulfield Guineas.

El Castello ($4.40) completed a spring hat-trick last start when taking out the Gloaming Stakes and while he admittedly had a kinder draw than the two market elects in that 1800m feature, he appears to have better tactical speed than both Swiftfalcon and El Castello.

Spring Champion Stakes Winners

Starting in 1971, the Spring Champion Stakes has been one of the main three-year-old features of the Sydney spring since it was first run.

This event gained Group 1 status in 1979 and as a 2000m feature run ahead of the Victorian Derby and VRC Oaks, it also acts as a main lead-up to those Melbourne staying features.

Profondo (2021), Sharp 'N' Smart (2022) and Tom Kitten (2023) have won the last three editions of the Spring Champion Stakes.
