Railway Stakes 2022 Tips

Railway Stakes 2022 Best Bet - Alaskan God

Spelled after a midfield Northam finish on debut last spring, this gelding when on a rampage when he returned, going 5/5 in his second racing campaign.

Alaskan God culminated that prep with a Melvista/WATC Derby double, with last year's Railway winner Western Empire also winning those two races.

First-up in the Asian Beau, there was zero intent with this four-year-old, who was dragged right back before rattling off the fastest last 600m of that lead-up.

Although he'll be better suited by the 1800m of the Northerly Stakes, 1400m to 1600m is a logical progression and with even luck, he's the one to beat.

Railway Stakes 2022 Next Best Bet - Searchin' Roc's

Despite some commentary regarding a wide barrier costing Devoted in the RJ Peters last Sat, Searchin' Roc's beat the Bob Peters runner on his merits.

Had Devoted won that and made his way into the Railway field (currently third emergency), then he would be the market elect in this Group 1.

With an excellent three-year-old resume (three stakes wins) and a very unlucky spring return in the Asian Beau, this mare is still underrated despite a good profile.

Although she lacks the brilliance that a few of these main chances have, the daughter of Awesome Rock is as tough as nails and she maps for a soft run.

Railway Stakes 2022 Value Bet - Notorious One

This quirky seven-year-old is about as reliable as an ashtray on a motorbike, hence his quote, but don't dismiss him if you're playing wide in the exotics.

On talent, Notorious One is in the best handful of gallopers here and with any luck, he runs second to Western Empire in last year's Railway.

He's had excuses in his last two runs, being held-up at key stages in the Asian Beau and the race shape was completely against him in the Lee-Steere.

A big and raw son of Animal Kingdom that needs momentum, barrier 10 is the ideal draw for him, while he gets the blinkers on for this step to a mile.
