I had him penciled in for the Queensland Derby and he scored a bonus win last start in the Group 3 Rough Habit on the way to his grand final.
The New Zealand raider sustained a very long run in trying Soft 7 conditions and withstood a strong challenge from Paternal, who he meets again.
Dark Destroyer was strong through the line, giving every indication the 2400m will be even more to his liking and If they do race on a heavy surface, that won’t phase this son of Proisir.

2022 Queensland Derby Next Best Bet – Paternal
Paternal really laid it down to Dark Destroyer last time and was a month between runs there, so there should be some improvement to come.
He did get the better run of the eventual quinella, however it was still a great effort and looks the obvious danger coming from the Waller yard.
While his dam side produces mainly sprinter/miler types, his sire Savabeel won a Cox Plate and was runner up in the 2500m VRC Derby.

2022 Queensland Derby Value Bet - Villaden
Another of the strong Waller contingent who comes through a different form line than the bulk of this field, having done all his racing in Victoria.
His lead up races have been on good tracks and was getting home for fourth over 2000m at Flemington last start, indicating this rise in trip could suit.
Villaden is a son of Tavistock and the breed generally get through the ground, so he could be the surprise packet of this line up.
