A strong field of 15 has been assembled for the 2023 Memsie Stakes and Mr Brightside just holds favouritism with BoomBet, where $3.95 is the quote.

2023 Memsie Stakes Tips

2023 Memsie Stakes Best Bet - I Wish I Win

The scary thing for his rivals this season is that Peter Moody hasn't got to the bottom of I Wish I Win, who announced himself on this meeting 12 months ago with a big win on Australian debut.

He put four lengths on a handy Gentleman Roy via that first triumph down under and with a Golden Eagle victory to round out the prep, he was then focused on sprinting over the autumn.

That last campaign culminated with yet another feature win, with the son of Savabeel denying Giga Kick in the TJ Smith and that pair will resume their rivalry later in spring vias The Everest.

I'm not sure barrier one is such a negative, as he has been forced back in most Australian outings due to wide gates, so don't be surprised if he's closer than most speed maps are predicting.

2023 Memsie Stakes Next Best Bet - Osipenko

Staying at 1400m is the slight knock, although he did win second-up over this trip in autumn and as he showed in that Hobartville performance, Osipenko can take a position when drawn low.

While he was able to round out his last campaign with a victory, a Randwick Guineas went begging, as he was scratched on race day morning of that Group 1 due to an elevated temperature.

From a wide alley and off a very quiet trial, he arguably outperformed expectations first-up in the Winx Stakes on August 19, where the entire made up many lengths to finish fifth on return.

With fitness, map and even intent queries surrounding the proven WFA gallopers in this Memsie, Chris Waller will see this a big opportunity to land a first Group 1 win with Osipenko.

2023 Memsie Stakes Value Bet - Bank Maur

Having rounded out his autumn with a pair of ten-furlongs runs, which includes a Group 2 Alister Clark win, the bookies were always going to take Bank Maur on first-up in a Memsie.

The ceiling still remains unclear for the son of Maurice, who could easily furnish more as a four-yar-old going on breeding and his Group 3 return over 1300m in January should be noted.

In a tight finish via that Sandown event, Bank Maur did split two Group 1 winners in Jacquinot and Ruthless Dame, while back in fourth was the subsequent Goodwood winner (Royal Merchant).

Given that was against genuine sprinter/milers, the Richard Laming-trained entire is clearly capable of sprinting well fresh, albeit his recent Randwick trial was workmanlike to the eye.

Verdict

The classy I Wish I Win goes on top in the Memsie Stakes, while the map and set-up appeals for Osipenko at an each-way quote.

Bank Maur is a capable fresh horse that shouldn't be overlooked.
