Circle Of Fire comes into spring calculations off his back-to-back wins over The Championships, with his latest coming over two miles in the Sydney Cup and he prevailed there despite covering ground.

The Ciaron Maher-trained import improved with every appearance via four runs over his first Australian campaign, while his victories were recorded on both heavy and good ground.

At $11 with BlueBet, Circle Of Fire is favourite to win the 2024 Melbourne Cup.

Having won four of five starts in 2023, including a famous Caulfield/Melbourne Cup double, Without A Fight is one of the best horses in Australia and while history will be against him in 2024, the bookies are taking no risks.

Without A Fight is one of three runners on the second line of betting, with $15 also available for Middle Earth and Vauban.

While it was a successful campaign for connections, with the gelding earning just short of $1.5 million in prize money, Soulcombe ($18) was his own worst enemy in some key races, which included a slow getaway in the Melbourne Cup.

Soulcombe still managed to finish second in the 2023 Melbourne Cup and he'll likely be targeted at this major once again.

Melbourne Cup Winners

The Melbourne Cup is one of the world's most prestigious staying races and a highlight on the Australian sports calendar.

Being a 3200m handicap that attracts runners from across the globe, 'the race that stops a nation' is traditionally one of the toughest for punters, given the many different form lines.

Despite it being a challenging contest for all, the Melbourne Cup is the most popular betting race in Australia and one of the world's most famous sporting events.

Verry Elleegant (2021), Gold Trip (2022) and Without A Fight (2023) have won the last three editions of the Melbourne Cup.
