Mackinnon Stakes 2021 Best Bet - Zaaki
He was my top selection for the Cox Plate and although it was not ideal that he had a little hiccup on race morning, this race is nowhere near as strong and he gets his chance to claim Group One win number three.
Zaaki was coiled up and ready to explode in the Cox Plate and the stable were more than confidence, as was the jockey of the moment James McDonald.
With that man riding with so much confidence, and the fact he knows this horse well, I am more than happy to be siding with him in this event.

Mackinnon Stakes 2021 Next Best Bet - Colette
This mare certainly knocked me down after putting her off at both of her last two wins where I felt conditions did not suit, but she is a star.
I do feel she bumps into one better here in Zaaki who looks one of Australia's better horses, but as for the rest of the field, I do think Colette may have them covered especially with some rain around.
On the week back-up and now up to 2000m, this is the distance range where she can show how good she really is.

Mackinnon Stakes 2021 Value Bet - Hungry Heart
I loved the way she hit the line in the Empire Rose and what we know is that she is a powerful mare once she gets over 2000m and further.
It has been a bit of a strange prep for her thus far, but we know never to knock the Waller camp and placement of their horses as we saw in Tuesday's Melbourne Cup.
I do think Hungry Heart lacks the class on the top two, albeit she's much less exposed and is a massive chance of fighting it out for a top three finish.
