Broadsiding is arguably the leading two-year-old of this season, a Godolphin colt who has won his last four starts and two of those victories have come at Group 1 level.

After a brilliant return win on June 1 via his Brisbane debut, the son of Too Darn Hot proved his good track credentials when bolting in with the Group 1 JJ Atkins at Eagle Farm.

He's the leading Godolphin contender in the Golden Rose futures market and the 'Blue Army' have had success in this Group 1 over recent years, with Epaulette (2012), Exosphere (2015), Astern (2016) and Bivouac (2019) all past winners of this 1400m feature.

At $3.80 with betM, Broadsiding is favourite to win the 2024 Golden Rose.

Storm Boy ($6) didn't measure up to the hype over the Sydney Autumn Carnival, with the son of Justify losing as favourite in both the Golden Slipper and Inglis Sires'.

With four wins from as many starts before that, including a high rating Magic Millions performance, the Waterhouse & Bott-trained colt was the leading his crop before the Golden Slipper and it's worth noting that he was on the inferior going via that Rosehill program.

Also, he was at the end of a long campaign, and with improvement predicted in his three-year-old season, Storm Boy is still fancied in the early Golden Rose market.

After taking out the Group 2 VRC Sires' in Melbourne, Traffic Warden ($8) caught the eye when finishing fourth in the Golden Slipper before rounding out his campaign with a narrow defeat as runner-up in the Inglis Sires'.

Linebacker ($11) was narrowly beaten by Broadsiding in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes, which was the third and final start of his first campaign, however, he did defeat the Godolphin colt prior to that at Group 3 level.

Golden Rose Winners

First being run and won in 1978, this feature was originally known as the Peter Pan Stakes after the dual Melbourne Cup winner, but was renamed the Golden Rose after its grading was dropped from Group Two to an 'Unlisted' affair despite a prize money increase to $1 million.

This major was upgraded to a Group One event in 2009 and since then has become a stallion making race which is evident with recent winners that includes Zoustar, Exosphere, Trapeze Artist, The Autumn Sun and Ole Kirk who are all well in demand and popular in the current breeding climate.

In The Congo (2021), Jacquinot (2022) and Militarize (2023) have won the last three editions of the Golden Rose.
