A superbly bred colt, being by Snitzel and out of Samaready (two-time Group 1 winner), Shinzo is a full brother to Exhilarates, a four-time stakes winner that also took out the 2019 Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

Interestingly, Shinzo will contest the Golden Rose first-up, with connections opting to skip the key lead-up events and at $4 with Ladbrokes, he's the favourite for the 2023 Golden Rose.

Cylinder was spelled after a big defeat as favourite in the Inglis Sires', although there were excuses for the Godolphin galloper there, as that was contested on a Heavy 9 surface.

He's opened his three-year-old season with back-to-back wins, which includes a second-up victory via the Run To The Rose.

At $5, Cylinder shares the second line of betting with King Colorado, who tasted Group 1 success last season via the JJ Atkins and against older rivals in the Winx Stakes, he was very competitive first-up on August 19.

The Maher & Eustace-trained colt has subsequently won a tick-over trial at Randwick.

Charm Stone ($9) is a classy filly that made it back-to-back triumphs with a brave Listed win at Moonee Valley on September 9 and she rounds out the single-figure chances.

Militarize ($11) stamped himself as a middle-distance prospect for the 2023 spring following back-to-back Group 1 victories in the Inglis Sires' and Champagne Stakes, with the son of Dundeel recording easy victories in both two-year-old features.

While 1200m proved a little sharp fresh, that Run To The Rose return was a strong one, albeit that was a busy finish overall.

The 2023 Golden Rose will be run at Rosehill on Saturday, September 23.

Golden Rose Winners

First being run and won in 1978, this feature was originally known as the Peter Pan Stakes after the dual Melbourne Cup winner, but was renamed the Golden Rose after its grading was dropped from Group Two to an 'Unlisted' affair despite a prize money increase to $1 million.

This major was upgraded to a Group One event in 2009 and since then has become a stallion making race which is evident with recent winners that includes Zoustar, Exosphere, Trapeze Artist, The Autumn Sun and Ole Kirk who are all well in demand and popular in the current breeding climate.

Ole Kirk (2020), In The Congo (2021) and Jacquinot (2022) have won the last three editions of the Golden Rose.
