The George Main Stakes is one of Sydney’s premier weight-for-age mile races held at Royal Randwick. The race is named after George Main, a former chairman of the AJC.

2021 George Main Stakes Best Bet - Verry Elleegant

Aiming for her ninth Group One victory on Saturday is this star mare from the Chris Waller yard, who is following the same pattern last spring in going from the Winx Stakes to the George Main Stakes second-up.

Verry Elleegant is also coming off a similar run, being three-wide the trip in both of her last two Winx Stakes attempts, although instead of gripping on to win this year, she was touched off late by Mo'unga who finished second to Incentivise last Saturday.

That Makybe Diva Stakes form does read a lot stronger than the other references in this field and despite failing in the George Main Stakes last year, going from good ground to soft ground this time around is much more suitable.

2021 George Main Stakes Value Bet - Hungry Heart

Another Waller runner going straight from the Winx Stakes to the George Main Stakes is this daughter of Frankel, a runner who was costly for punters as an early three-year-old before making amends in the autumn.

It was a definite pass mark for her first-up, balancing up well late in the piece and to the eye at least, it was a better performance than Kolding's (third fav here) and she was only just over a length off Think It Over (second fav).

On a good surface, she's more of a $7-$8 chance in this feature following a nice tick-over trial, although her last attempt on a Soft 7 was only a two-length defeat over 1200m in a leader dominated race, with the mile being a big tick now.

2021 George Main Stakes Roughie - Shout The Bar

This honest mare from the Waterhouse & Bott stable does have history as a giant killer in Group One's, knocking off Probabeel and Funstar at 14/1 in Vinery Stud Stakes before saluting in the Empire Rose at 30/1 last spring.

Shout The Bar can be a hard one to read off the trials as she always works a like Grand Annual runner, but the return as the pick of the on-speed runners behind Zaaki had some merit, especially as she was in the worst part of the track.

Her best chance would be trying opening up a break early as she won't have the brilliance to out-sprint most of her key rivals at WFA level, and although I'd be a little surprised if she won, a top three finish off a favourable map wouldn't at all shock.
