First run in 1973 and given Group 1 status in 1986, this race has seen champions in Emancipation and Sunline lump 60kg to victory, with the last superstar winner coming in 2009 via Typhoon Tracy.
Lady Shenandoah is favourite to win the 2025 Coolmore Classic, with $2.50 her quote via Picklebet
2025 Coolmore Classic Tips
2025 Coolmore Classic Best Bet - Lady Shenandoah
A dominant winner of the Group 1 Flight Stakes winner at start four prior to a spell, the three-year-old opened her 2025 account with an impressive fresh victory in the Light Fingers Stakes.
While it was narrow victory as a $1.30 fav when taking out the Group 1 Surround Stakes on March 1, her fighting qualities were evident late and she was also a touch flat second-up.
Although there's a wide alley to overcome, the main on-speed influences are drawn either side of her (Grinzinger Belle and Lady of Camelot), so J-Mac can follow them across early.
Chris Waller has trained the last two Coolmore Classic winners and he combined with J-Mac last year with Zougotcha, who was more seasoned but Lady Shenandoah might be more brilliant.
2025 Coolmore Classic Next Best Bet - Coeur Volante
She was a beaten fav when fourth via her only third-up tilt (Thousand Guineas) and the first three home there (Joliestar, Kimochi and Skybird) have all subsequently won at Group 1 level.
After failing to fire via a short Brisbane winter prep and with her Bellmaine Stakes resumption last month being just fair, the jury was out a little on Coeur Volante ahead of her last run.
Blinkers on for the Mannerism Stakes sparked the four-year-old up, with the daughter of Proisir recording a dominant four-length win and she draws softly for this assignment.
With the tragic recent passing of the legendary Mike Moroney, there'll be no more popular winner should Coeur Volante prevail and she's a genuine contender at a decent quote.
2025 Coolmore Classic Value Bet - Alsephina
The Williams yard was happy to treat the first-up effort as a trial and that's the right way to play it, as Alsephina was completely unsuited in a race that was dictated by Amelia's Jewel.
The Group 1-placed mare will also benefit from her first clockwise appearance and she improved sharply second-up last campaign when winning over a similar journey.
While she drew out in the Stocks Stakes, Blake Shinn was able to put her into the race via that Moonee Valley Group 2 and with a kind alley here, that task will be made easier.
Alsephina was a notable drifter in the market ahead of her recent fresh outing ($5.50-$9.00) and she does look a forgotten runner here despite having a lot more in her favour.
