Champions Sprint 2024 Betting Odds - Everest Quinella head sprint market
- Bella Nipotina leads the 2024 Champions Sprint market
- The race is part of the Melbourne Spring Carnival and rich in racing history
- Key contenders include Giga Kick and Overpass, each with recent notable performances
There's no standouts among the Australian sprinting brigade at present, however, Bella Nipotina is arguably the most honest galloper in the country and the Ciaron Maher-trained mare recorded a brave win in The Everest, where she saluted despite covering ground.

The seven-year-old continues to improve with age, with three of her four Group 1 triumphs recorded in 2024, although she hasn't won from 10 ten attempts at Flemington.
At $4.60 with PlayUp, Bella Nipotina heads the 2024 Champions Sprint market, while Giga Kick ($5.50) sits on the second line of betting.
The jury was somewhat out on the gelding ahead of The Everest, where he improved third-up from a long spell and he was unlucky in the 2022 Champions Sprint after winning the The Everest as a three-year-old.
Giga Kick had won his prior two outings up the Flemington straight and the five-year-old is also effective on all surfaces.
Overpass ($6) was unable to secure an Everest slot, but he won the consolation prize on the same meeting when leading all the way in the Sydney Stakes.
His 1200m winning time went a shade faster overall than The Everest and the Bjorn Baker-trained galloper was only first-up via that October 19 run.

Champions Sprint Winners
While it's had a host of name changes since first being run in 1960, The Champions Sprint has always been the main race sprint of the Melbourne Spring Carnival.
Previously held on Derby Day, this 1200m Group 1 moved to the final day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival in 2006 and in 2007, it became a weight-for-age contest.
Despite its relatively short history in comparison to other Melbourne Spring Carnival features, this race is not short on quality and this century has seen champions in Takeover Target, Miss Andretti, Black Caviar, Buffering and Nature Strip all feature on the honour roll.
Nature Strip (2021), Roch 'N' Horse (2022) and Imperatriz (2023) have won the last three editions of the Champions Sprint.
