The Group One Champagne Stakes rounds out the two-year-old autumn majors on Saturday where the juveniles now get tested over the mile at Royal Randwick.

Early famous winners of the Champagne Stakes include Ajax, Todman and Vain whilst Samantha Miss and Pierro are a few of the more modern champions to win this group one which is also known as last leg of the two-year-old "Triple Crown".

At $3.60 with PlayUp, Hilal just holds early favouritsim for the 2021 Champagne Stakes.

2021 Champagne Stakes Tips

2021 Champagne Stakes Best Bet - Captivant

The impressive Victory Vein Stakes winner chased them down with ease on October 17 at Randwick which saw him start a favourite in the $1 million-dollar Golden Gift, where while he did visually look to struggle a little on a wet track, still managed to peel off the fastest last 600m and 200m of that feature.

Captivant is building towards this Champagne Stakes tilt and although he was narrowly shaded by Hilal in Sires' Produce Stakes, finally getting a good surface on Saturday can see him turn the tables over the mile and from barrier one, they can be much more positive early.

Peter & Paul Snowden prepared King's Legacy to win last year's Champagne Stakes and while the son of Capitalist didn't win the Sires' en-route to this feature as that runner did, he did have to contend with Anamoe, the most talented two-year-old in the country who is now in the paddock.

2021 Champagne Stakes Value Bet - Queen Of Wizardry

She was disappointing first-up in the Golden Slipper, but with a setback from the week before (scratched in the Magic Night Stakes) it was far from the ideal set-up, going straight into a high-pressure Slipper first-up off just one trial.

Following an outstanding debut win in Brisbane, Queen Of Wizardry runs a clear second to Shaquero in the Magic Millions 2yo Classic if it weren't for Baby Wong and Ruby Kisses falling into her lap in the straight, so she's certainly capable and the Sires/Champagne have looked more genuine targets from the outset.

Outside of the first three home in that Sires', she was clearly the pick of the rest with this 1600m feature in mind, finding the line strongly despite not being in winning calculations but now finding a firmer surface, can peak third-up.

2021 Champagne Stakes Roughie - Arnaqueur

Although I'm not convinced the Fernhill Stakes is the right form reference for this event, I do think this colt could easily be the best galloper produced from that event in time, even if it isn't on Saturday and he's a huge price in comparison to Converge.

A half-brother to the 2018 Todman Stakes winner Aylmerton, Arnaqueur is an athletic and long striding type who pulled out plenty to win a Kembla Grange Maiden on debut before attempting the Mile in last Saturday's opener from Randwick.

The son of Astern was well supported on that occasion ($8.50-$6.00) and not suited at the rear with a slow tempo up front, he still caught the eye last despite sustaining a wide run while the winkers now go on ahead of the Champagne Stakes.

Verdict

Captivant is on track for a peak performance in 2021 Champagne Stakes.

At longer odds, both Queen Of Wizardry and Arnaqueur make appeal for the each-way players.
