Trainers Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr have the first two market elects with Ladbrokes for the 2023 C.F. Orr Stakes, with I'm Thunderstruck currently the $3.50 favourite.

This son of Shocking has the best spring form among the nominations, with a Group 1 victory over Alligator Blood in the Makybe Diva Stakes, along with second-place finishes in the Memsie Stakes, Caulfield Stakes and Cox Plate, the last two coming behind Anamoe.

While he doesn't have the race fitness of his stablemate, the bigger expanses of Sandown are expected to favour this gelding, as opposed to Caulfield.

Jacquinot ($4.20) is aiming for a second Group 1 victory and the three-year-old faces his toughest test to date, now taking on some more accomplished older rivals.

A brilliant last gasp winner of the Manfred Stakes first-up on at Sandown, this colt did win the Group 1 Golden Rose second-up over this trip last September, defeating In Secret, Golden Mile and She's Extreme (all subsequent Group 1 winners) in the process.

Toorak Handicap winner Tuvalu ($6) is well respected on the third line of betting, a galloper that is unbeaten from two attempts at Sandown.

This Lindsey Smith-trained galloper has a model of consistency, having only finished outside of the top two once in 13 starts and that was a third in the Rupert Clarke, where he was beaten under half a length.

Fangirl and Mr Brightside (both $9) round out the single figure chances for the C.F. Orr Stakes.

CF Orr Stakes Winners

The CF Orr Stakes form guide is all about following the proven WFA performers.

In 2019, Manuel defied the odds to take out the race at big odds, having not been proven at the highest level under these conditions. In 2020 Alabama Express secured the win.

2020 Futuirty Stakes winner Streets Of Avalon showed he is not a one-trick pony, winni again at Group One level over 1400m in 2021.

2022 saw Tofane lead all the way, claiming her fourth Group One win of her career, over US sprinting mare Lighthouse.

The CF Orr Stakes is generally the first Group 1 of the Australian calendar year.
