2021 Caulfield Cup Tips, Preview & Best Bets

The Caulfield Cup is the first of the three spring majors, holding a carrot worth $5 million.

Having a maximum capacity field of 18 horses, we see many horses fighting for those last few spots in the field, including internationals who target the race each and every year.

This year the prestigious race will be held on Saturday, October 16 where Russian Camelot is currently your outright favourite.

The favourite is unlikely to run in the race, but a Filly such as Monetfilia could show up and cause some chaos.

One of the great handicaps in the world looks set to again be a huge lineup with some high quality internationals increasing the quality.

Assuming she wins tomorrow's Oaks comfortably as we expect her to, then the Caulfield Cup would be te logical target come spring time next year.

She is already a two time Group One winner over the mile and 2000m, with one more still lkley to come.

She looks to have great staying ablity, and what is so exciting is that she has a turn of foot that puts her from five lengths back to within a length in a matter of 100m.

That type of power is what won Verry Elleegant the Caulfield Cup this year and can do so for Montefilia next year.

He came into this prep with 12 months off the scene, which may have left him short a run or two come the big race.

This time, expect a different plan of attack. I think we will see him for a run or two during the Autumn which will give him a solid base of fitness for a spring campaign.
