Blue Diamond Stakes 2023 Tips

2023 Blue Diamond Stakes Best Bet - Steel City

While her Sydney form arguably warrants favouritism by itself, changes were needed with Steel City, as she has been quite soft late in her races.

The Maher & Eustace team have now put the blinkers and tongue tie on this daughter of Merchant Navy, which gives us confidence for the Blue Diamond.

Barrier five is another positive and aboard a filly that has tactical speed, Blake Shinn can potentially settle just off Exploring and The Instructor early.

She has started fav twice against two genuine Golden Slipper chances in Red Resistance and Learning To Fly, who both won their next outings.

2023 Blue Diamond Stakes Next Best Bet - Brave Halo

While Godolphin colt Barber is the most professional two-year-old from the Blue Diamond Prelude, I do think Brave Halo is the most talented.

The son of Brave Smash was unbeaten from three WA outings before making the trek east for Sean & Jake Casey, who are no strangers to travelling.

This colt was a well backed fav in that key lead-up and there were excuses, as he was held-up from the 500m to the 200m, and again in the last 100m.

A middle draw would've ideal for this juvenile, although barrier 16 is preferable to an inside alley in a big two-year-old field, going off that last run.

2023 Blue Diamond Stakes Value Bet - Arkansaw Kid

This two-year-old was fancied ahead of his debut on Cox Plate Day and despite sitting wide, he proved a little too classy for his Inglis Banner rivals.

There wasn't much depth to that, hence the big odds here, although Mexico (second) was then competitive behind Barber and Learning To Fly.

Arkansaw Kid was one of the most affected gallopers by the fall in the Inglis Millenium, so I'm happy to put a line through that first-up performance.

He had trialled well in the lead-up to that return and from barrier four over a more suitable 1200m second-up, he should get a soft run in transit.

Verdict

Steel City brings the best form and has the blinkers on for the Blue Diamond.

Brave Halo had excuses as fav a fornight ago and can also be backed for a good result.

Including Arkansaw Kid as the bolter, a colt that looks the forgotten runner here.
