The 2022 Lightning Stakes is set to be run on Saturday down the Flemington straight over 1000m, where last year's winner Nature Strip (barrier six) heads the market.

The champion sprinter has trialled up super for this first-up assignment and has the addition of Jamie Kah in the saddle who rode him to victory last year.

Coolmore Stud Stakes winner Home Affairs (barrier eight) looks a main rival, although is expected to be better over 1200m in the Newmarket Handicap.

Nature Strip's fierce rival Eduardo (barrier five) will no doubt be in the firing line early, while Masked Crusader (barrier three) should have beaten the champ in The Everest during the spring.

Three-year-old Profiteer (barrier seven) is a work in progress but no dout has the talent, while The Inferno (barrier four) looks one to be suited to straight track racing.
