This is a stallion making race for many of the colts, and in the past we have seen the likes of Zabeel, Shamus Award, Wandjina and Palentino all going on to stud duties.

At $2.35 with Colossalbet, Jacquinot hads the betting for the 2023 Australian Guineas.

Australian Guineas 2023 Tips

2023 Australian Guineas Best Bet - Attrition

Should he have won the CS Hayes lead-up on Feb 18? Perhaps, although at least that performance showed that he well and truly belongs at this level.

Although he's a galloper can effectively settle anywhere, the tactics were too negative in that latest outing, with Attrition racing a little greenly.

He also wanted to lay-in when among other rivals in that 1400m contest, so there's improvement to come and this colt is searching for 1600m now.

I loved the versatility in his back-to-back Jan wins, as he showed a turn-of-foot off a slower tempo fresh and then absorbed a stronger speed at Geelong.

2023 Australian Guineas Next Best Bet - Legarto

This New Zealand filly has been outstanding at home, winning her first five outings in brilliant fashion, which included a Group 1 1000 Guineas romp.

What's worth noting is that her first four victories were in the anti-clockwise direction, with Legarto appearing to travel better on her Melbourne leg.

Her sole defeat came via the Karaka Millions 3yo Classic, where she was very unlucky and for a filly that needs momentum, gate one did her no favours.

An in-form Michael Dee takes the reins on this exciting three-year-old and suited on the big expanses of Flemington, she's the X-factor in this.

2023 Australian Guineas Value Bet - Amenable

He showed enough class over spring, making ground from the rear second-up on a testing Heavy 10 to place in the Caulfield Guineas prelude.

Amenable was then beaten one length in the Caulfield Guineas, where he sustained a strong run from off the speed and finished alongside Osipenko.

Spelled straight after that Group 1 attempt, this colt was rather workmanlike in his lead-up trials ahead of his return, indicating that he'd need that run.

Despite a big market drift supporting that, he recorded the run of that Autumn Stakes and Pericles franked the form with a huge win at Sandown last Sat.
