The All Aged Stakes headlines the final day of the Sydney Autumn Carnival and this famous Group 1 has received a big prize money increase last year, with the 1400m feature now worth $1.5 million (up from $600,000).

Chris Waller is aiming for third win in this seven furlong feature and he prepares Espiona (barrier 8), who is the early market elect.

The five-year-old was unlucky last time out when contesting the TJ Smith Stakes and with the majority of her winning form being in the 1400m-1500m range, the step up in distance is ideal for her in the All Aged Stakes.

Her prior form this prep was strong, with Espiona opening her campaign with a third in the Black Caviar Lightning and she followed that up with another Group 1 placing via the Canterbury Stakes.

Sunshine In Paris (barrier 2) was also narrowly defeated last start in the TJ Smith Stakes, although the daughter of Invader didn't appear to relish heavy ground in that second-up outing.

She was terrific prior to that in The Galaxy, where the four-year-old worked home on what clearly the inferior ground on the Golden Slipper Day program.

Sunshine In Paris is a Group 1 winner over the Randwick seven furlongs, with the mare taking out last year's Surround Stakes in what was just her fifth career outing.

Southport Tycoon (barrier 5) will have his admirers off a last start Australian Guineas victory, as the form through that has stood up strongly with Veight and Riff Rocket both subequent Group 1 winners.

The Ciaron Maher-trained colt was scratched from the Doncaster Mile on the opening day of The Championships due to a heavy surface.

Coming back to WFA level after drawing wide with topweight in The Galaxy, Private Eye (barrier 10) appears better suited in the All Aged Stakes and he has won a tick-over trial since his Golden Slipper Day attempt.

The consistent sprinter/miler won the 2021 Epsom Handicap when fourth-up, so he can hold form deeper into a campaign.

All Aged Stakes Winners

The All Aged Stakes dates all the way back to 1865 and this Group 1 has many of Australia's best ever gallopers as winners on its honor roll.

These early champions include Carbine, Wakeful, Ajax (only horse to have won three All Aged Stakes), Bernborough and Tulloch whilst some of the more recent notable victors are Rough Habit, Sunline and Atlantic Jewel.

The Group 1 All Aged Stakes was run over the mile at Royal Randwick up until 2004 when it was dropped to 1400 metres to suit those sprinters coming from the TJ Smith Stakes (1200 metres) and to also blend in with the short-course landscape of Australian racing.

Kolding (2021), Cascadian (2022) and Giga Kick (2023) have won the last three editions of the All Aged Stakes.
