2019 Toorak Handicap Tips

The Toorak Handicap has been one of the grand spring miles for a while now with some strong winners in the feature event.

The race is run under handicap conditions and is run over 1600m, most often the next step for horses after competing in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes over 1400m.

Stars such as Gunsynd, Umrum and more recently More Joyous have all been victorious in the event.

This year looks set to be a clash between Age Of Chivalry, Princess Jenni and Fierce Impact as they all look to head towards the 1600m event.

International Galloper Chief Ironside adds some questions to the event as we don't often see horse come to Australia with no cups aspirations.

Toorak Handicap Best Bet - Princess Jenni @ $9

Princess Jenni was strong in the Stocks Stakes on AFL Grand Final eve at Moonee Valley, carrying 56.5kg to win that race.

She now gets a weight relief down to 54.5kg for the handicap.

She has an explosive turn of foot and showed that third-up last campaign, coming from the tail of the field at Caulfield before winning her Group One in Adelaide.

The stable have been aiming her at the mile this prep and this looks a perfect race en-route to the Empire Rose during the Melbourne Cup carnival.

The Toorak is always open so she is an each-way quote.

This Northern Hemisphere four-year-old is owned by Australian Bloodstock and has been set for this race.

He comes in as the first emergency but with he big field you would assume there would be a scratching in the race.

His pet distances are between 1600m and 2000m so under Australian racing conditions where there is often pace up front, the 1600m looks ideal.

His last run was in the Group Three Gala Stakes at Sandown (UK) where he did not look to run out a strong 2000m.

He is a natural front running galloper and has drawn barrier two so he will settle forward and likely lead this race up.

The key to this horse is that he needs to strike firm ground which it is currently rated.

Hopefully the rain stays away for this galloper at a big price.
