Flemington Racing Tips For May 16 - Can Hastings prove the King of Flemington?

It's Andrew Ramsden Stakes Day at Flemington  where the winner of the 2800m contest gets a free ticket into the 2020 Melbourne Cup.

King Of Leogrance is the outright favourite from up and comers Too Close The Sun and Dark Alley.

Our best bet of the day comes in the fifth race, Masculino who should show a sharp turn around in form off the back of his last performance.

Vale Darby McCarthy OAM Tips (Race 1)

Flemington Next Best Bet - Race 1 No. 1 Mystery Love

First-up at Caulfield on April 11 she showed a breath taking turn of foot to demolish a benchmark 90 field before not handling the wet conditions at her next run at Sandown on May 2.

She now comes back to a 84 rated race, with in-form hoop Tom Stockdale aboard, she will have 2kg off her back bringing her very well in at the weights.

She is a natural get back horse, so the wide gate is not to worry about and the Flemington straight should suit her powerful finish, with cover in behind runners we may see an explosive turn of foot come the furlong.

At $4.40, she represents great value and looks the one to beat.

Furby Dash Tips (Race 5)

Flemington Best Bet - Race 5 No. 9 King Of Hastings

The son of Ilovethiscity has always been earmarked with the word 'potential', and again I will use that word as we still have not seen the best from this horse.

His first-up run last time in was okay to the eye, but he may not have found the right part of the track and the fact that he pulled up lame explains the performance.

Second-up he was a straight track winner here, beating a benchmark 70 field in style before tacking Alligator Blood in the 3YO Magic Millions Guineas at the Gold Coast.

He has had just the one jumpout on May 8 to prepare for this race, running second in a Group One heat and he strikes a typical 1000m handicap for what looks a winnable assignment.

He has more scope than these horses and has the brilliance on his side to prove that he is the best bet of the day at Flemington.

The Andrew Ramsden Tips (Race 6)

Flemington Favourite - Race 6 No. 2 King Of Leogrance

The Adelaide Cup winner of this season is the deserved favourite coming into this race with Damien Oliver in the saddle.

He lacked that sharpness over 1800m when first-up last prep, finishing second to the in-from Ryan's Fender before producing two outstanding wins to round off that campaign.

The short freshen up would have done this horse the world of good, and maintaining that residual fitness from the 3200m contest last start will show over the concluding stages of this 2800m contest.

Dark Alley looks the main danger to me, finding the Adelaide Cup one run too soon but since producing an astonishing turn of foot at Geelong.

Experience is the key for this galloper.

Lexus Trophy Tips (Race 7)

Flemington Roughie - Race 7 No. 9 Masculino

Third-up and up to 2000m looks a good recipe for this consistent galloper from the Price & Kent JR stable.

For the last two preparations, he has performed below expectations for his second-up assignments but has shown to improve lengths into his third-up run.

He was a third-up winner last prep and he holds an excellent record over the distance (9: 2-5-0) and track and distance (4: 1-2-0).

The current track rating sits well in his favour in that genuine soft range and the inside gate should give him a cozy lead.

At $20, he is an excellent play in this race.
