Alan Hanrahan's Abraxos recorded a blowout victory at Ararat before stewards declared the race a 'no-race' following a barrier malfunction in race four at Ararat on Tuesday.
The Ballarat based trainer only possesses a very small stable, but Hanrahan couldn't believe his luck as Abraxos charged victory in the concluding stages of the race, his first winner since June.
Settling off the speed, the five-year-old gelding by Star Witness cruised into the race down the home stretch and powered past his opposition late like an odds-on pop.
Unfortunately for Hanrahan, stewards immediately informed punter to hold their tickets after obvious problems with the jump were raised by all participants on the track.
After seeing the stewards vision of the gates which showed that the barriers only opened for five of the ten runners at the start, with the other five unfortunately receiving a severely hampered beginning, stewards had no choice but to declare the event a 'no-race'.
