Doomben Racing Tips For January 9 2020 - Is Baroda ready to progress?

Brisbane is trialing a new time slot for their weekday metro meetings and they start it with an eight race program from Doomben this Thursday.

The rail is in the 1.5m position and whilst the track is presently a Soft 5, warm conditions are expected on Wednesday and Thursday.

Doomben Best Bet

Race 5 No. 3 Baroda

After an unlucky fresh run, this filly was able to breakthrough in fine style here on December 13.

Prepared by the very astute training partnership of Toby & Trent Edmonds and remaining at the 1350m, the times did stack up fairly for that meeting where she had more to offer.

Went at a comparable time to the Class 2 later in that meeting and the form from her maiden has also been franked with three subsequent winners coming out of that event.

This is clearly harder but Baroda does draw for the better run than her main threats and should get every chance as the best bet at Doomben.

Doomben Next Best Bet

Race 4 No. 2 Solo Mission

In what is admittedly a rather low race, this Chris Waller-trained gelding finds his most winnable assignment in some time.

Despite having a turn of foot about as sharp as mine, he finally gets out past ten furlongs and has placed in Sydney via his last two attempts past this distance.

That reads very well for this race where the favourite is coming off a Class 1 victory at the Sunshine Coast and it's only other win was at country level.

Solo Mission was inconvenienced last time out but is capable of producing as the next best bet at Doomben getting up to a suitable trip now.

Doomben Best Value Bet

Race 7 No. 1 Desmon's Pride

This gelding has run a placing as our best value bet in his last two outings at each way quotes.

Does drop back in trip here but also finds himself coming back from open grade to a Benchmark 75 where only he and the out of form Mr Markou are at that rating.

Coming back to six furlongs should allow him to finish off stronger as he has been a little suspect late in proceedings recently but has still been right in the finish.

Desmon's Pride gets nice relief with the 3kg claim and with a pinch of luck from an inside alley, should be thereabouts again as the best value bet at Doomben.

Doomben Roughie

Race 2 No. 1 Don't Cry Mama

A four-year-old that was well supported at a price in his Gold Coast debut on December 21.

At 900m, he just couldn't quite balance up and let down until it was over but did make a good impression late in the piece behind Seeyaron who's since won again.

Off that performance, he's much better suited up to the six furlongs of this event where the main chances are resuming and he's open to plenty of improvement.

Due to being prepared by a smaller stable, Don't Cry Mama is longer than she should be in the market and is a live chance at double figure odds in an open affair.

Doomben Quaddie

Race 5: 3
Race 6: 1,2,5,7,8,9,11
Race 7: 1,4,7,9
Race 8: 1,3,4,13

$112 gets you 100%.

Verdict

On a tough card, Baroda maps for a nice run in Race 5 and did win with authority second-up.

Solo Mission is better placed up in distance via the fourth and his Sydney staying form reads well.

Desmon's Pride is worth an each way ticket again in Race 7.
