Doomben Racing Tips For 23.11.2019 - Is Stina ready for further?

Metropolitan racing returns to Brisbane this Saturday with the Listed Spirit Of Boom Classic and Listed Recognition Stakes being the highlights in Races 7 and 8.

The rail is in the 2m position and the track is rated at a Good 4.

Doomben Best Bet

Race 3 No. 2 Red Stina

A progressive four-year-old mare that arrives following a third-up victory here on November 9.

Beat the talented Soxagon on that occasion who rates above anything in this field and she still finds herself well in with the mares allowance and 1.5kg Stephanie Thornton claim.

Needs to run out the ten furlongs but her best career win was when finally getting over 1840m last time in and draws to lob midfield.

It was only last campaign that she put two lengths on Plumaro, another that's at least a few rungs above any of these on ability which confirms Red Stina as the best bet at Doomben.

Doomben Next Best Bet

Race 7 No. 1 Miss Fabulass

Admittedly a little speculative given the run of outs but I feel the price is right in a rather weak race for this mare.

A superbly bred galloper by Frankel and out of Samantha Miss, she hasn't entered the winners stall in six attempts since scoring in the 2018 Tea Rose Stakes.

Was a short favourite for the Group One Flight Stakes following that for a narrow defeat and whilst not threatening this campaign, she had excuses second-up when getting too far back from a wide gate.

Finally draws a barrier, she's the best horse in this moderate mares line-up and for the risk, the current quote looks fair.

Doomben Best Value Bet

Race 4 No. 2 Lord Heron

Formerly trained by Jason Coyle and now in the care of Allan Kehoe, is this four-year-old having his second start for the new stable.

He bolted in to score in his first outing for the new camp on November 1 at Moree and whilst that isn't great form traditionally to bring to town, it's only a Class 3 where most are struggling at QLD provincial level.

Has won at the NSW provincials before and beat a dual city winner in Sakura last campaign which is certainly good enough for this.

It's worth respecting the trainer making the big trek from Port Macquarie with one horse, especially given he has a meeting on his home deck next week.

Can't see why Red Stina doesn't go on with it via Race 3 in an easier affair to her last start.

Tough meeting otherwise, but specking both Miss Fabulass and Lord Heron at longer quotes.
