Coolmore Classic 2020 Tips

The girls take to the Rosehill stage on Saturday with the running of the Group One Coolmore Classic which is one the more premier and recognizable mares events on the calendar.

First run in 1973 and given group one status in 1986, this race has seen champions in Emancipation and Sunline lump 60kg to victory with perhaps the last great elite winner coming in 2009 via Typhoon Tracy.

The Coolmore Classic is run over the 1500m at Rosehill Gardens and Sylvia's Mother is the early $4.20 favourite with BetEasy to take out this $600,000 feature.

Coolmore Classic 2020 Best Bet - Sylvia's Mother @ $4.20

This daughter of Snitzel has been faultless in her two runs this campaign and is timing her run for this group one perfectly.

Ability more than anything looked to get her home first-up at Caulfield on February 8 when getting there late over the 1200 metres before ticking the 1400m box with a softer victory than the margin suggested at Flemington.

She should've won that by further but more importantly, proved herself over the seven furlongs and whilst she has to rise again to the 1500m, she drops two kilos off that last run.

Barrier eight is dieal for Tommy Berry to slot her in midfield or even a little handier and in-form with perhaps a few more tricks than her opposition, Sylvia's Mother is the best bet in the Coolmore Classic for 2020.

Coolmore Classic 2020 Next Best Bet - Pohutukawa @ $5.50

She won't want the surface to dry too much but as it stands, this Godolphin mare has been building for the Coolmore Classic in excellent fashion.

Was the eye catcher getting home behind Sweet Deal first-up over the 1200m which was a little too sharp and again has motored home from the rear in the Guy Walter Stakes a fortnight back.

That is one of the key lead-up events for this feature and up to 1500m now where she finally draws well in a big field, James McDonald can park her closer in the run.

Pohutukawa has always shown the potential to win at this level and in an expected peak run, this is her best chance to date of securing a group one victory.

Coolmore Classic 2020 Roughie - Oceanex @ $34.00

This four-year-old doesn't want it any shorter than 1500m but we certainly have to respect Mick Price going to Sydney following a very forward Cranbourne trial.

Racing handy in that March 3 hit-out over the 1190m, she could have easily put a space on them but was kept ticking along under her own steam in a tidy piece of work.

Following a string of frustrating misses at short quotes, she took out the 2019 Matriarch at a big price before being spelled but that could be the catalyst now for a turnaround.

Oceanex handles any conditions and with a very consistent record, isn't without a rough hope in the Coolmore Classic and could be one for the exotic players at least.
