Morphettville Racing Tips For April 25 2020

The Group Three Chairman's Stakes and Breeders Stakes for the juveniles headline the nine race Anzac Day program from Morphettville this Saturday.

Take note that races one and nine will be run on the main circuit (Out 10m 1200m-W/Post, 2m 2000m-1800m, 8m Remainder) whilst the rest of the meeting will be run on the Parks track where the rail is out 3m.

Race 9 No. 2 Dalasan

The main lead-up to the South Australian Derby (May 9) comes up via the Chairman's Stakes in the last from Morphettville and as the betting/ratings suggest, it appears to be a two horse race between the talented local in Dalasan and the 2019 Victoria Derby winner Warning.

Warning was flying early this campaign in a bid for the Australian Derby in Sydney, but after somewhat of a plain Rosehill Guineas effort, it was a flop in the main target, albeit with some excuses. It's a mystery as to how well he's going presently with this looming as a d-day.

Oppositely, Dalasan looks to have regained his mojo with a professional victory in the Port Adelaide Guineas and has drawn well again for Jason "Stubby" Holder.

Both are definitely capable of taking this out with Dalasan being the safest option off recent form and he maps for a kinder run throughout.

Morphettville Best Bet

Race 7 No. 5 Jacobite Prince

This is a very winnable event for this three-year-old to make it two in a row following a second-up return to form here on April 11.

Prepared by the astute Phillip Stokes stable, he won his first two race starts in September and then October last year before a third-placing behind two subsequent listed winners in Xilong and Garner (Xilong also group one placed).

Whilst he didn't beat a whole lot, it was a comfortable win last time out and third-up with a rise to 1400m here, is open to further improvement.

Jacobite Prince drops 2kg in the weights and against mostly limited older opposition, is well placed to go on with it as the best bet at Morphettville.

Race 4 No. 4 Sky Punch

Michael Hickmott has this striking grey gelding in good touch this year and he brought up a much deserved second victory for the campaign on March 28.

After winning a Class 2 fresh at Murray Bridge, he started taking on stronger opposition which resulted in two narrow defeats with the little drop in grade working wonders last start.

It was win that had plenty of merit where he did it the tough way in being three-wide throughout with 62kg and the form has stood up from that event with second and third placed runners both winning their next outings, albeit it in weak grade.

There's a little query with the slight drop in distance but Sky Punch also carries less weight and from a good gate under gun hoop Shayne Cahill, can win again.

The Grant Young yard aren't the easiest to catch and we could say the same for this galloper, however he's been thereabouts in just about every start since moving to South Australia.

After famously taking what seemed an eternity to breakthrough when under the care of Gerald Ryan in Sydney (17 starts), there hasn't been many bad runs on the resume.

This gelding made ground for fourth last time out in a similar race to what he faces here and the task will be made easier now where he's been asked to chase with 57kg as opposed to 62kg.

Star Of Monsoon has a big 5kg swing in the weights from that clash on a two length margin versus the favourite in Seemingly Discreet and at big odds, is in the each way mix.
