Canterbury Tips October 5

HYLAND RACE COLOURS HANDICAP Tips (Race 4)

Canterbury Value Bet - Race 4 No. 8 Liam's The Boss

Not the easiest card for an each-way selection with the small fields, however, with more improvement here over a suitable journey off a good fresh return, this gelding has claims for a top three finish at fair odds.

He competed in some handy events over his first two racing preparations which includes a fourth at listed level last spring behind Pancho and Russian Camelot when in Melbourne and defeated home the 2020 Australian Derby winner Quick Thinker in the process.

Liam's The Boss recorded a much-deserved maiden victory at the end of his autumn campaign in a line-up that has produced multiple winners including Crown Affair (subsequently won in town) and the September 17 return for this gelding was strong for second over the 1500m at Kembla Grange.

BOWERMANS COMMERCIAL FURNITURE HANDICAP Tips (Race 6)

Canterbury Best Bet - Race 6 No. 7 The Bopper

Perhaps the most anticipated galloper accepted for the October 5 program from Canterbury is this exciting son of Nicconi who was dominant via two excellent victories in his first racing preparation.

The Bopper has run slick time in both triumphs where he broke the Tamworth class record on his April 26 debut when bettering the time of the other two 1000m races on that card and delivered the same at Scone (around six lengths faster than the Class 1) when putting more than six lengths on Pyrmont, a subsequent city winner.

This three-year-old has trialled up superbly now three times in readiness for this return assignment and smashed the clock at his most recent hit-out at Newcastle on September 23 with comfortably the fastest last 600m and best overall time for the 800m heats that morning.

\ANZ BLOODSTOCK NEWS HANDICAP Tips (Race 7)

Canterbury Next Best Bet - Race 7 No. 6 Mirra Vision

Now third-up with a pair of strong performances under her belt, this mare from the Snowden yard does look very well placed now coming back down in grade and finally drawing a good barrier in three after a luckless second-up run in a tougher affair.

The daughter of Lonhro was forced to work throughout the entire journey at Rosehill on September 26 with the effort to stick on for an eventual fifth-place finish having plenty of merit under the circumstances where she's managed to put two lengths on the next runner home in that field.

With a soft run close to the speed here under Tommy Berry who has been aboard for two of her three victories, Mirra Vision gets her right set-up in the penultimate from Canterbury on Monday with the drop in trip being another positive as all of her form is around this journey.

Verdict

The Bopper is unbeaten and has been superb at the trials ahead of his return in Race 6 from Canterbury.

Mirra Vision was luckless second-up and back in grade via Race 7, she gets her chance from a low draw.

The fresh effort of Liam's The Boss was decent and he has each-way claims in Race 4 over a more suitable journey.
