BELMONT
Race 2 - Strike Now (fourth): Although he didn't necessarily improve off a good return, it was the run that Strike Now needed before he attacks 1400m-1600m races, where he'll be more comfortable. Off the bit rounding the turn, the four-year-old took plenty of time balance up late over the 1300m and it's worth noting his last two wins were over 1500m.
Race 3 - Coming Around (third): Has no winning form over 1000m and hasn't saluted first-up, so he should a big improver from this dash where he was chasing a long way out. While the winner out-sprinted him, Startrade was better suited at this trip and had residual fitness despite a freshen-up. He has a very good second-up record, so is worth following.
DOOMBEN
Race 4 - Be Water My Friend (third): Too far back in a race that was not run to suit, he was off the bit and chasing early which was pretty much race over from there. He looks in need of more ground, and although his record does not suggest he gets much further, he is now five-year-old and may just need 1200m to get the best out of him now.
Race 6 - Count The Coin (second): Looking to have the race shot to pieces on the bend, it took the ever consistent Blacklog to run him down. A really good space back to third, he got in light with 53kg and again if running in this level of race next start, he will carry this weight and prove mighty hard to beat. Also eligible to drop right back in grade.
MOONEE VALLEY
Race 3 - Millane (third): Ridden out of his regular race pattern, he was cast three-wide and close to the pace. What was great about the effort is his ability to stick on nicely and clearly looking for more ground, so a step up to 1400m next start looks the right step. Appears to be on a Caulfield Guineas campaign and is ticking every box so far.
Race 9 - Unanimous (fifth): Arguably the run of the day, launching from near last on a day where it was hard to make ground down the outside. Finished with the fastest sectionals from the 1000m, 800m, 600m, 400m & 200m and although the individual split times were not up there across the day, there were some slowly run races earlier in the card which set up for quick last splits.
MORPHETTVILLE
Race 8 - The Big Kahuna (fourth): Looks a progressive stayer does this son of Rebel Raider, who was second-up at only start four and was five weeks between runs following his first-up run, so there should be plenty of improvement to come. Nothing went right here, where he dipped at the start and was held-up at a key stage in the run home.
RANDWICK
Race 6 - She's Extreme (third): The Champagne Stakes winner was easily the filly to follow,, especially with the Tea Rose (1400m) and Flight Stakes (1600m) in mind. Completely unsuited settling back on a tough day to make ground, she was only arriving off a one very quiet trial and after a slick 12.18 split the 400m to 200m, condition gave out late.
Race 8 - Benaud (fourth): Loved his Winx Stakes return where he found the line strongly and has backed that up over a mile second-up, coming from off the speed to record an eye-catching fourth against the rails bias. He's sharper in this early four-year-old prep and the Kingston Town (2000m) en route to The Metropolitan (2400m) looks a likely path.
