BELMONT
Race 5 - Tri For Us (second): Only a stride off saluting here second-up was this Adam Durrant mare, who no doubt wins from a better draw. Was forced to retreat back to the rear when Vital Flirt kicked up, which has cost them a few crucial lengths early. A lightly raced five-year-old who was stakes placed twice last winter, she'll get over more ground this campaign.
Race 9 - Speed Dream (fifth): This gelding put a bridesmaid's tag to last prep with back-to-back wins before a second behind a smart Otheroneson and this was a nice return. A big striding son of Dream Ahead, he was in restricted room for much of the run home and never got warm. Wasn't beaten far considering and he generally improves second-up.
CAULFIELD
Race 5 - She’s Licketysplit (third): In a race where the top two came from the back of the field, this Group One winning filly's effort to keep fighting on and run through the line was admirable. Clearly a filly that is going to run out a strong mile, she is still the best horse from the Thousand Guineas Prelude with the real challengers being any filly that comes down from Sydney.
Race 7 - Tuvalu (third): He may have just sewn his spot as the top seed for the Toorak Handicap. Was fresh hereover 1400m, but his best efforts have come over a mile. Heavily backed, the market expected a positive performance which they certainly got, but he was just beaten by two who had runs on the board this prep. Expect him to prove mighty hard to beat next start.
GOLD COAST
Race 5 - Mossman Gorge (fourth): It was the late work over the 900m journey that very much caught the eye and going back through the form of this eight-year-old gelding, he was probably 100m short of his best trip. Beaten a head in a stakes race at Caulfield last prep, we know that this gelding has enough class to match it with some handy sprinters.
Race 7 - Tara Jasmine (second): A slower tempo allows this girl to show her brilliance. By the bend, she was around five lengths off the leader having done no work to get to that position and although that allowed the leader to sprint, she had the sharper turn-of-foot and was unlucky not to win, having to be eased over heels to find the outside.
MORPHETTVILLE
Race 5 - Charm Slinga (fourth): This four-year-old is building into this prep well and has a good platform now with this 1500m effort under the belt. After a slow start, Charm Slinga raced keenly, while last and still chasing approaching the turn, he was seemingly going nowhere until the 100m, where he finished off nicely. Maybe back to the midweeks third-up.
RANDWICK
Race 4 - Stray (fourth): Willing to ignore what looks a poor record, as either side of a dominant maiden win, Stray has been thrown in the deep end at stakes level. Arrived here off a good trial and arguably wins this from a better draw, with the four-year-old peaking at the 50m after a long and wide run from the rear. Can be placed softer than BM78 level.
Race 6 - Wolverine (third): Surprised that this filly isn't fav for the Flight Stakes, as she looks set to peak over a mile in that Group 1 feature. Was around four weeks between runs second-up here after making out blackbook file fresh and has produced another slashing effort, with the second fastest last 600m of the Tea Rose. Would love for her to draw a gate.
