DOOMBEN

Race 2 - Gave Us Up (second): Ran a great race in one dominated by those nearer to the pace and plenty have been saying that race favourite Tamilaide was big from the back, yet this gelding held the same margin on him from the 400m. He may get over a tad further, so placed in similar grade next start, a win looks on the cards.

Race 8 - Gogol (second): Beaten by a smart one, but made up a stack of ground, which again was not the pattern of the day. He has been super consistent this season with four wins and two second placings from eight starts, while with a 900m and now this 1110m run under the belt, he should be close to a peak next start at 1200m.

GAWLER

Race 2 - Modear (third): Admittedly the wider lanes were favoured on this Gawler program, albeit that wasn't as pronounced earlier and she was still spotting them a big start, yet was only a few strides off saluting. Modear is also more effective on firmer ground and now based in SA, there's plenty of options around with a rating of 74.

Race 8 - Morty (third): The winner found the fast lane, which was worth more than the winning margin, while the leader and runner-up angled out to better going. One of the few in the back end of the card to stick on against the pattern and made ground in a leader dominated race the start prior. Going well, just needs bit more luck.

MOONEE VALLEY

Race 2 - Sumatra (second): She not look to handle The Valley overly well so possibly getting to a track like Flemington or Caulfield will be up her alley. Being regally bred, a city win will be very valuable to her pedigree going forward, especially as a two-year-old, so expect James Cummings to have her screwed right down next start.

Race 8 - Curran (sixth): He has been frustrating this prep due to his negative racing pattern, but it was an enormous effort for him to close off on a track where it was hard to make up heaps of ground. He needs to get to Flemington down the straight, where he can draw wide and make one big run at them as we saw him do last prep.

RANDWICK

Race 1 - Spellcatcher (third): Best horse (Silent Impact) won, a three-year-old that's stakes class, although off a big freshen-up, this gelding had excuses, when committed to come to the outside of Moridian, who kept shifting out. Arrived here at start three and had settled closer in two prior wins. A city victory is just around the corner.

Race 2 - Wild Calm (fifth): Super effort from the beaten fav, who gave up far too much ground early and struggled to pick up until the 150m when responding well, but then was in restricted room over the last 50m. Should've ran second to Coolangatta on debut and while unsuited twice at 1000m, this filly will relish a high pressure six furlongs.

Race 8 - Ziegfeld (eighth): Lacks a turn-of-foot does this Godolphin import, but is honest and was twice a runner-up in his first Aussie prep. Nearly the first horse off the bit when angling for a run at the 400m and was one-paced until the 150m when picking up again, although saw nothing but backsides late. 1600m-2000m is his right range.
