Best Bets for 14.03.2020

Race 8 No. 10 Master Of Wine

Given he hadn't won below 1700m and was beaten nearly seven lengths in his last attempt over the seven furlongs, it was understandable that many thought he'd likely need the run on February 22.

He made them predictions/doubts look foolish when bolting into score by three and a half lengths and after settling settling handy, Master Of Wine traveled like the winner throughout.

Goes now second-up and to the ten furlongs of the Sky High Stakes which is another challenge but dropping 3kg and with the best turn of foot in this field, Master Of Wine can solidify his rising star claims as the best bet on Coolmore Classic Day.

Race 1 No. 6 Rainbow Thief

This horse showed his class last start on the soft track at Sandown, exploding away from Skiddaw to win by 3.5 lengths and whilst that horse was only first up, there's still a big margin to make up on what will likely be soft ground again.

He will settle back again from that wide gate, and hopefully peel wide to run down the leaders.

Skiddaw will likely hold a spot in front of him this time, so he is the horse we will need to catch but from last start, Rainbow Thief has to be the best bet at Caulfield.

Race 2 No. 16 Fisticuffs

Returning with the ultimate gear change is this well bred three-year-old who looked a horse with a future last campaign.

After coasting into that last attempt and looking as though he'd blow Ballistic Boy away (city winner/group competitive) along with many other useful gallopers back in the field, he was a nuisance over the last furlong and was still only narrowly defeated.

Now a few stones lighter and resuming off two superb trials, he should be taking care of this lot as the best bet at the Gold Coast, providing he's not a complete wet track duffer (drawn out and early in the day will negate that somewhat).

Race 9 No. 5 Scout's Honour

This galloper looks over the odds in this race considering he will relish the step up in trip with Todd Pannell in the saddle.

His last start was in very strong company against Cotillion and Gougers who would both win this race and will be suited on the seven day back-up with a step up in trip, keeping that sprint in his legs.

His overall form does not read all that well, but based on last start and how he hit the line, from an each-way perspective, he is my best bet of the day at Morphettville.

Race 5 No. 3 Tollman

This lightly raced gelding has been a model of consistency in seven career starts to date and now in his second campaign, is improving with every run.

With three wins and four placings, the furthest he's been defeated is 0.42 lengths and following a tradesman-like win fresh at the midweeks here on February 19, we saw a more brilliant version of him at Bunbury when he took a sit.

Respecting the class of Dark Choice but with potentially other plans with that mare being so early in her prep, this looks a nice chance for the versatile Tollman to get a deserving Saturday win as the best bet at Ascot.
