Ballarat Preview, Betting Predictions & Best Bets

Racing returns to the synthetic at Ballarat where it is set to be a cold day.

There's been plenty of conjecture about the place of synthetic racing has in Australia but on wet days like Friday the surface should ensure all runners have an even chance.

Race 6 No. 2 Egyptian Gold

This five-year-old mare was so strong two back over 1400m at this track but failed to fire as favourite at Morphettville last start.

Egyptian Gold takes a big step up to the 2200m today which I can see her running out with the claim from Logan McNeil. She should be able to take a more forward position from the inside gate which will suit her racing style.

The pace in the race does not look all that strong, therefore I can see her just behind the speed or leading, ready to show a burst of acceleration coming to the bend.

Ballarat Best Bet: Egyptian Gold - $2.20 at BetEasy

Ballarat Synthetic Next Best Bet

Race 7 No. 5 Ian

You simply have to love a horse named Ian; especially after he has won his first two starts on this synthetic track.

Last start he won a class one in strong fashion as the a favourite sitting on the pace. These race tactics you would assume would be adapted again for this race.

This benchmark 64 does not look difficult with his main rivals out of form and questionable on a synthetic surface. No Reward from the Cumani stable looks the main danger, bu her most recent performance on a synthetic track was well below par.

Ian should make it a hat-trick of wins.

Ballarat Next Best Bet: Ian - $3.50 at BetEasy
