Albury Racing Tips For 03.01.2019 - Can Mudgegonga peak at a mile?

An eight race card has been set for Albury this Friday where hot conditions are expected.

The rail is in the true position and the track is rated a Good 4.

Albury Best Bet

Race 5 No. 9 Mudgegonga

From the Craig Widdison yard in Wodonga is this mare that has been knocking on the door in all five career starts to date.

She presents here third-up after a Benalla effort on December 21 when briefly looking the winner in the run home but just peaked on her run late although was still only beaten under a length.

After a runner-up effort fresh behind a subsequent city winner in Blossom On Snow, she did enter that last outing around a month between runs so was entitled to be vulnerable late and she strips fitter.

Has drawn a sticky gate but the price is there for the risk where with the best form in the field, Mudgegonga can breakthrough as the best bet at Albury.

Race 3 No. 8 Mythical Goddess

This four-year-old was very well supported on debut over this track and trip back in August.

Was a very well held fourth on that occasion and returned for this campaign at Tatura where she finished down the track but did pull up with excuses.

After a slow beginning and laying-in under pressure in the straight, the rider did report that the bit went through her mouth on that occasion, so it's worth forgiving that run.

With a slight change in the gear and good recent trial at Wagga where she ran on-speed, Mythical Goddess could be the big improver and is value in a rather weak maiden.

Albury Roughie Bet

Race 8 No. 1 Test A Day

Ideally she'd have drawn a better alley but this veteran mare is big odds as the class runner in the last.

Following a twelve month lay-off, she returned at benchmark 70 level in Victoria where she was beaten just over two and a half lengths at Tatura on December 8.

That was prior to a runner-up effort at Benalla on December 21 and her last third-up performance resulted in a second placing at Benchmark 64 level in Victoria.

For a line-up where none of her opposition are at the benchmark of 58, Test A Day certainly isn't the worst as the roughie selection at Albury this Friday.
