The world's richest harness race comes around this Saturday night at Tabcorp Park Menangle for the TAB Eureka (2300m), with nearly $2 Million in prizemoney.
The slot race has attracted world wide interest and a crack field for the 2024 edition.
The market is wide open, with WA raider Never Ending being favourite, but is drawn the extreme outside and there is a stack of quality underneath so it shapes up to be a ripping contest.
TAB Eureka Preview & Best Bets
The Favourite: 14 Never Ending
Star gelding from WA for Justin Prentice that had his first look at Menangle two weeks ago at the 2300m. He got dragged back from the widest gate and in a race dominated by the leader, he spotted the leader/winner too much head start but I loved the way he finished his race off, clocking very good late splits. Likely will be dragged back again, but can see them going hard in front, he'll get a good card into the race and be very strong late. $3.40 is probably a bit on the short side and I'd rather wait til closer to post time where I am sure you'll get $4+.
The Danger: 5 Sure Thing Captain
The Queenslander is a proven big time performer both at home and here at Menangle. He won the Stockade at this meeting last year and I say 12 months on, he is a much better horse this time around. He won The Discovery last Saturday night and the win was very impressive. He led throughout and I loved the way he put the race to bed between the 350m-150m, showing electric change up speed and was strong to the line. I dare say he is the leader and if he is able to pinch a cheap quarter, he has the change up speed to put the race away.
The Value: 2 Bay Of Biscay
It is hard to put a line through anything Emma Stewart is training and this colt is loaded with talent. He ran a beauty two back in the Queensland Derby when second before going to Melton two weeks ago where he did a bit of early work to lead and gee he was dominant late, running fast overall time. I do think stablemate Major Delight is a better horse but I think this guy has a map to do no work early and be effective late.
