The Open is creeping ever closer, with the biggest golf tournament in the UK set to be played at St Andrews in 2022.

Starting on Thursday, July 14th in the UK, the competition will end on Monday, July 18th, with the battle to reign supreme in the UK something that will likely capture the imagination of the golfing public.

It was Collin Morikawa at The Open 2021 that was able to grab the big cash prize as he shot a -15 to see off competition from Jordan Spieth (-13) and Louis Oosthuizen (-11). This battle for supremacy was incredibly exciting and enabled the British public watching on the course and the rest of the world watching the broadcast to enjoy some truly exceptional golf, provided by the best of the best.

This year, Rory McIlroy is the favourite to win the competition at $13.00 alongside Justin Thomas. It is interesting to note that Jon Rahm was the favourite, but he has since drifted to $15.00 with bet365

The players expected to give McIlroy and Thomas alongside Rahm is Scottie Scheffler, who is also $15.00. Just behind the pair in the betting are Colin Morikawa, Cameron Smith (both $21.00), Jordan Spieth and Xander Schauffele (both $23.00).

The top players have swathes of golfing experience and pedigree, and the fact that the top eight are so close to one-another in the betting shows how competitive the competition will be. With no out-and-out favourite, there is excellent value to be enjoyed if you can nail your bet.

The Open betting odds provide some fantastic insight into who is supposedly most likely to win this year, although it also gives bettors the chance to find the players that provide a good level of risk and reward.

While there is value to be found in backing the player that you think will win before the tournament has started, there can be even more available once the competition has begun. By doing this, one of the favourites may slide down the leaderboard after a tough start, seeing their odds of winning drift, thus offering you more value. You can then back this golfer to win at the new, bigger odds, which will provide you with a larger potential return if you nail your bet.
