Twenty of the world's elite golfers vie for the end of year Hero World Challenge title in the Bahamas.

Henrik Stenson returns to defend this title after victory in 2019. There was no tournament in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

There are 10 current and former Major winners in the field, including Collin Morikawa, Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, Bryson DeChambeau, Jordan Spieth, Webb Simpson, Brooks Koepka, Justin Rose, Patrick Reed and Stenson.

These are our four picks for the weekend from a competitive field.

Rory Mcllroy

Rory McIlroy was in contention to win the DP World Tour Championship during the final round in Dubai but made three bogeys in the last four holes, allowing Collin Morikawa to claim victory.

McIlroy has won twice this year, firstly at the Wells Fargo Championship in May and then the CJ Cup in October.

Additionally, McIlroy placed 3rd at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship at the beginning of the year, T6 at the Workday Championship, T10 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, T7 at the U.S. Open, 4th at the BMW Championship and T6 at the DP World Tour Championship.

The world number 8 golfer will look to redeem himself after his frustrating finish at the DP World Tour Championship by lifting his third trophy of the year in the Bahamas.

Collin Morikawa

Collin Morikawa became the first American to win the Race to Dubai competition when he surged to victory at the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai two weeks ago to register his third win of the year.

Morikawa also won the Workday Championship in February and the 2021 Open Championship in July.

Other notable results for Morikawa was runner-up at the Memorial Tournament and the CJ Cup behind McIlroy in October. He has also placed T8 at the PGA Championship, T4 at the U.S Open and T7 on four other occasions.

The world number two golfer has had a stellar year and will look to cap it off with his fourth victory of 2021 at the Hero World Challange.

Justin Thomas

Justin Thomas started the year well by winning the Players Championship in March. After that victory, he could only manage two top-20 finishes in his next 11 starts.

Thomas has found his touch of late, as he placed T4 at the Northern Trust Open, T22 at the BMW Championship, 4th at the Tour Championship, T18 at the CJ Cup and 3rd at the World Wide Technology Championship from his last five starts on the PGA Tour.

The world number 6 has played at this tournament for the last three years in a row. He has placed 11th, 12th and 5th.

Sam Burns

Sam Burns had his break out year in terms of tournaments won on PGA Tour. The American won the Valspar Championship in May and claimed his second PGA title at the Sanderson Farms Championship in October.

Burns was runner-up at the AT&T Byron Nelson in May and also at the FedEx St. Jude Invitational in August.

Burns also achieved top-10 results when placing 3rd at the Genesis Invitational, T4 at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, T5 at the CJ Cup and T7 at the recent Houston Open.

Verdict

McIlroy has rediscovered his form of late and is the favourite to win the Hero World Challenge.

Morikawa has had an exceptional year and is a close second favourite to lift the trophy.

Thomas has been showing signs he is ready to win another title and is a backable each-way bet.
