The Farmers Insurance Open has attracted a stellar line-up of the world's best players who will compete at the revered Torrey Pines golf course this weekend. Who will win the latest round of the PGA Tour come Saturday?
Max Homa returns to Torrey Pines to defend his title after a two-stroke victory over Keegan Bradley in 2023.
Past major winners who will tee off on Thursday include Keegan Bradley, Stewart Cink, Jason Day, Shane Lowry, Hideki Matsuyama, Collin Morikawa, Justin Rose, Justin Thomas and Gary Woodland.
Players alternate between the South and North courses for rounds one and two, with the South course used for the remaining two rounds.
These are our four selections that could win the title this weekend.
Max Homa
Max Homa has been in great touch on the PGA Tour since July last year, placing T21 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, T12 at the Genesis Scottish Open, T10 at the Open Championship, T6 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, T4 at the BMW Championship, T9 at the Tour Championship and T7 at the Fortinet Championship
He then secured victory at the Nedbank Golf Challenge (DP World Tour), T13 at the Hero World Challenge and T14 at the Sentry.
Other noteworthy results achieved by Homa last season include finishing 2nd at the Genesis Invitational, T14 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, T6 at the Players Championship, T9 at the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play, T8 at the Wells Fargo Championship and T9 at the Charles Schwab Challenge.
The world's seventh-ranked player has compiled a largely impressive record at the Farmers Insurance Open, with results of MC in 2017, T9 in 2020, T18 in 2021, MC in 2022 and victory in 2023.
Homa has not placed outside the top 15 in his previous nine tournaments and will have a chance to lift the trophy for the second year running in California come Sunday.
Collin Morikawa
Collin Morikawa has been holding form on the PGA Tour since his victory at the ZOZO Championship in October last year, placing 7th at the Hero World Challenge and T5 at the Sentry.
Before that, Morikawa had produced excellent results, finishing T14 at the US Open, MC at the Travellers Championship, T2 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, MC at the Open Championship, T13 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, T25 at the BMW Championship and T6 at the Tour Championship.
Additional highlights achieved by Morikawa last season include placing T6 at the Genesis Invitational, T13 at the Players Championship and T10 at the Masters.
The world's number-six-ranked golfer has made two appearances at the Farmers Insurance Open, finishing T21 in 2020 and 3rd in 2023.
Morikawa has been in great touch lately and has the game to tame Torrey Pines this weekend.
Sepp Straka
Sepp Straka has been playing well on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour for the past five months, placing T14 at the Tour Championship, T10 at the BMW PGA Championship, T22 at the DP World Tour Championship, 2nd at the Hero World Challenge and T12 at the Sentry.
Other prominent performances by Straka last year include finishing T5 at the Honda Classic, T22 at the Valero Texas Open, T7 at the PGA Championship, T16 at the Memorial Tournament, victory at the John Deere Classic and 2nd at the Open Championship.
The 30-year-old Austrian has featured four times at this event, placing T13 in 2019, MC in 2020, T32 in 2021 and T16 in 2022.
Straka has done nothing wrong in recent outings and can make the frame at the Farmers Insurance Open.
Christiaan Bezuidenhout
Christiaan Bezuidenhout has found some solid form on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour in recent months, placing T6 at the Sanderson Farms Championship, T56 at the Shriners Children's Open, T9 at the Joburg Open, T17 at the Investec South African Open Championship, 3rd at the Alfred Dunhill Championship and 2nd at the American Express last weekend.
Other notable results achieved by Bezuidenhout last season include finishing T13 at the Players Championship, T19 at the RBC Heritage, T23 at the AT&T Byron Nelson and T21 at the Charles Schwab Challenge.
The 29-year-old South African finished T46 on his debut at the Farmers Insurance Open in 2022.
Bezuidenhout has been thereabouts and could cause an upset victory in San Diego this weekend.
Verdict
Morikawa can convert his recent displays into a winning performance in San Diego.
Straka has been in great shape and should enter calculations at Torrey Pines this weekend.
Bezuidenhout has yet to win a PGA Tour title but has the form to upstage the others at the Farmers Insurance Open.
