The DP World Tour and players remain in Australia for the second consecutive week with the 107th edition of the Australian Open on the line. Who will lift the trophy in Victoria come Sunday?
Joaquin Niemann is back to defend his title after a playoff victory over Rikuya Hoshino in 2023.
Past Major winners in the lineup include Cameron Smith and Geoff Ogilvy, including previous champions of the Australian Open: Cameron Davis, John Senden, and Peter Lonard.
These are our four selections that could win this weekend at Kingston Heath Golf Club & The Victoria Golf Club.
Joaquin Niemann
Joaquin Niemann has been in excellent touch during the latter half of the year, placing T3 in Nashville, T6 in Andalucia, T58 Open Championship, T2 in the United Kingdom, T9 at the Paris Olympics, T15 in Greenbrier, T2 in Chicago, T23 at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and T7 at the DP World Tour Championship.
Niemann was in fine fettle on the LIV Golf Tour earlier in the season, with results of victory in Mayakoba, 3rd at the International Series in Oman (Asian Tour), victory in Jeddah, T4 in Hong Kong, T9 in Miami, T3 in Adelaide and T7 in Singapore.
The Chilean golfer won the 2023 ISPS Handa Australian Open Championship on debut.
Niemann has the form to add another winning trophy to his cabinet in Victoria this weekend.
Cameron Smith
Cameron Smith has been producing ultra-consistent performances on the LIV Golf Tour and DP World Tour lately, placing T9 in Nashville, T6 in Andalucia, MC at the Open Championship, T2 in the United Kingdom, T8 in Greenbrier, 52nd in Chicago, T3 at the Queensland PGA Championship, T2 at the NSW Open and 2nd at the Australian PGA Championship last weekend.
Other noteworthy results achieved by Smith this season include finishing T8 in Mayakoba, T15 in Las Vegas, T2 in Hong Kong, T6 at the Masters, T14 in Adelaide, T2 in Singapore, T9 in Nashville and T6 in Andalucia.
The former Open Champion has a long history at the Australian Open, with results of T14 in 2012, MC in 2013, T71 in 2014, T13 in 2015, T2 in 2016, 4th in 2017, T10 in 2018, T27 in 2019, MC in 2022 and T17 in 2023.
Cameron Smith has been knocking hard and will have every chance to secure victory at the Kingston Heath Golf Club after his recent displays on the golf course.
Jordan Smith
Jordan Smith has been playing consistent golf on the DP World Tour since September, finishing T12 at the Betfred British Masters, T12 at the Omega European Masters, T7 at the Amgen Irish Open, T18 at the BMW PGA Championship and T35 at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
He was then T13 at the Open de France, T4 at the Andalucia Masters, T13 at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, T19 at the DP World Tour Championship and T21 at the Australian PGA Championship.
Other prominent performances achieved by Jordan this season include placing T4 at the Dubai Invitational, T2 at the Jonsson Workwear Open, T21 at the Porsche Singapore Classic, T24 at the ISPS Handa Championship, and T23 at the Volvo China Open.
The two-time DP World Tour winner is debuting at the 2024 ISPS Handa Australian Open.
Jordan Smith has been thereabouts lately and should enter calculations in Victoria this weekend.
John Parry
John Parry has been in solid touch lately, placing T6 at the Open de Portugal, victory at the Italian Challenge Open, T24 at the Open de Espana, T43 at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, T20 at the Andalucia Masters, T9 at the Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final and T8 at the recent BMW Australian PGA Championship.
Parry has been in top form on the Challenge Tour this season, with results of victory at the Delhi Challenge, T15 at the Abu Dhabi Challenge, T18 at the Challenge de Espana, T2 at the Danish Golf Challenge and T10 at the Challenge de Cadiz.
Parry then won at the Blot Open de Bretagne, before finishing T16 at the Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge, T8 at the Farmfoods Scottish Challenge and T8 at the Vierumäki Finnish Challenge.
The 38-year-old Englishman missed the cut at the ISPS Handa Australian Open on debut in 2023.
Parry can cause an upset victory at the Kingston Heath Golf Club after his recent run of results.
Verdict
Niemann has the form to win back-to-back Australian Open titles this weekend.
Cameron Smith can convert his excellent results into a winning performance at the Kingston Heath Golf Club come Sunday.
Jordan Smith has solid form and can secure another DP World Tour title this weekend.
Parry has been playing well lately and is the long-shot value bet in Victoria.
