McLaren have clear control of the F1 Championship after a dominant weekend by Oscar Piastri in Bahrain where the Aussie disappeared into the horizon taking a 13 second victory.

The Jeddah Corniche Circuit is the second-fastest circuit on the calendar and is the fastest street circuit ever in F1. Although there are plenty of official turns on the track, a lot of them are taken at high speed and will favour the cars that perform well on low down force set ups.

With average speeds of over 250km/h, teams that have top speed issues will struggle in Saudi. The street circuit is very unforgiving and with the kerbs raised this causes traction problems which can see some very high-speed crashes.

Qualifying will be crucial in Saudi and the driver an team that can put their cars on the front row have a significant advantage, despite there being quality DRS Zones.

Max Verstappen took pole last season in his Red Bull with a 1’27.472, .319 ahead of Charles Leclerc in the Ferrari.

Team Scuderia have performed well over the years in both qualifying and in the race and are expected to challenge for the podium this weekend. If there is a roughy then Leclerc is the driver to back.

That being said, the battle will be between the McLarens once again and with Oscar Piastri out performing his British teammate Lando Norris at the moment he has to be backed for pole.

As mentioned above, this race will be about the McLarens and who wins the internal battle for Team Papaya.

Norris had an out of sorts weekend in Bahrain but will come in with some confidence after still finishing on the podium in third position. However, The Aussie Piastri disappeared at the front and was literally untouchable and will once again be all business in Saudi Arabia.

The edge goes to Piastri on all accounts. The 24-year-old is in better form and also out-qualified and out-raced his teammate Norris in the 2024 event in Jeddah, qualifying fifth and finishing 4th last year.

Completing the podium will be Charles Leclerc who has been in Parc fermé twice in the last three years in Saudi Arabia.
