Formula 1 moves back to Europe this weekend with Catalunya hosting the Spanish Grand Prix. Max Verstappen took the race in Montreal with a little luck on his side in one of the most exciting races of the year and we can expect a repeat of his visit on the top step in Barcelona, with the three-time World Champion winning the past two Spanish Grand Prix.

Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya demands a high downforce set up, however, the cars do reach a top speed of 330km/h on the pit straight. The high speed corners and warm track temperature put a lot of pressure on the tyres and degradation management needs to be the driver’s top priority if they are going to find the optimal strategy between a two or three stop race.

With two DRS zones and a traditional wide racing circuit overtakes are easy to come by and raw pace is going to be the deciding factor in the Spanish Grand Prix.

2024 Formula 1 Spanish GP Qualifying Best Bet

Max Verstappen has qualified on the front row of the grid in the past three Spanish Grand Prix and with the track suiting the RB20 to a tee it is a brave call going against the reigning champ who was on the front row last season with a 1:12.272 lap time.

Despite Mercedes having good one-lap pace in Montreal, they do not have the speed to match it with McLaren and Ferrari  in qualifying. If you are looking for a roughie for qualy then Lando Norris would be the pick. The Brit started from third on the grid last year and the MCL38 has been quick on the faster tracks this season.

2024 Formula 1 Spanish GP Best Bet

Red Bull and Max Verstappen won the Spanish Grand Prix by 24.090 seconds in 2023 and the field has not close the gap that much to the world champions. The pace of the Red Bull will see Verstappen race and disappear into the Spanish sun and win this grand prix comfortably.

The fight behind can be a heated one in Spain with Norris standing out from the back over the past few races as the McLaren driver looks to challenge Verstappen. This would suggest that the Paya driver will be on the podium again, however, with the upgrades to Mercedes last weekend that improved their car dramatically the Silver Arrows will be in the mix again, especially with them featuring on the podium in the past 7 races.

Lewis Hamilton has 6 race wins and 5 minor-podiums in 17 races in Barcelona and with that type of record he is a good pick for another podium finish in 2024.
