New Zealand and Pakistan meet for the 1st T20 International at Eden Park on Friday. Home conditions should give the Black Caps the edge while young batsmen, Devon Conway and Glenn Phillips will look to continue their fine start to international cricket.

New Zealand Form

New Zealand recently beat West Indies 2-0 in a three-match T20 series on home soil. After winning the first two matches the third one was rained out.

During that series New Zealand blooded some youngsters with key figures such as Kane Williamson being rested. Glenn Phillips and Devon Conway took full advantage of their opportunity, scoring 68 and 108 runs respectively in the 2nd T20.

In that match the Black Caps scored a huge total of 238 runs at Mount Maunganui. The West Indies were never really in with a chance as they fell 72 runs short on 166.

New Zealand Team News

Veteran batsman Ross Taylor has been dropped from the T20 squad. Kane Williamson and Trent Boult both return after missing the series against the West Indies. It is not clear whether they will both feature in the opening match.

Fast bowler Lockie Ferguson has been ruled out of the series with a back injury while Jacob Duffy takes his place in the squad.

Pakistan Form

Pakistan come into this series off the back of a 3-0 series win at home against Zimbabwe. Opposition and home conditions need to be taken into account, but Pakistan remain one of the top T20 sides in the world.

Zimbabwe batted first in the final T20 in Rawalpindi and scored a measly 129 runs. Usman Qadir bowled magnificent, taking 4-13 in four overs.

Pakistan hardly broke a sweat in the run chase, achieving the total in under 16 overs. Abdulla Shafique scored 41 runs while Khushdil Shah added 36. They were both unbeaten at the end in an eight wicket victory.

Pakistan Team News

The big and bad news for Pakistan is that world No.2 batsman, Babar Azam has been ruled out of the series after breaking his thumb in practice.

New Zealand vs Pakistan Head to Head

Pakistan have won their last five T20 matches against New Zealand. Their last encounter took place in November 2018 where Pakistan won by 47 runs.

New Zealand vs Pakistan Odds

New Zealand are priced at $1.53 to win with Pakistan offering odds of $2.50 with bet365.

Martin Guptill is the favourite to be the Black Caps best batsman at $3.60. For Pakistan Haider Ali is valued at $4.50 to be the top scorer.

New Zealand vs Pakistan Match Up

The loss of Babar Azam is huge for Pakistan. He is the one batsman that could consistently deal with foreign conditions and score big runs. New Zealand doesn’t have a good record against Pakistan in T20 cricket but they were in superb form against the West Indies.
