Australia got a fairly comfortable win over Oman in their opening match of the World Cup, but have some work to do with the bat as David Warner and Marcus Stoinis were the only ones to cause real damage.  England have a much more aggressive bowling attack and this will suit the Aussies just fine, with the depth of their batting order strong as any.

Travis Head scored just 12 in the opening game but enjoys these big events much more and will put in a much better performance against England.

England didn't lose a wicket in the 10 overs played against Scotland in their opener, however, the Australian bowlers will cause more of a challenge and expect Adam Zampa to unsettle the Pommy batters with his change of pace coinciding with a vicious quick attack that the Australians possess.

Head to Head

England won both matches that were played in England’s tour of Australia back in October 2022, beating the Aussies by 8 runs in both matches.

Australia have not won a T20 series against England since 2014, winning just 1 match in the last 7 completed games against the Poms.

Australia Form

The Australians got the job done against Oman in their opening match of the T20 World Cup, defending a modest total of just 164 runs as Oman mustered just 129/9 after their 20 Overs faced.

Marcus Stoinis did the damage for the Aussies with both bat and ball, top-scoring with 67* runs not out and claiming 3 wickets for 19 runs off three overs bowled.

David Warner opened his farewell tournament with a half century, scoring 56 runs before being caught by Shoaib Khan at long-off. Both Mitchell Starc and Adam Zampa claimed 2 wickets each in a positive start for the Australian bowling attack, especially with Pat Cummins being rested.

Australia Squad

Mitch Marsh (c), Ashton Agar, Pat Cummins, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade, David Warner, Adam Zampa.

England Form

Rain put a stop to England’s opening match with Scotland after the Poms got off to a blistering start with both openers George Munsey (41*) and Michael Jones (45*) both going unbeaten for 90 runs after 10 Overs were bowled.

England come into the World Cup after beating Pakistan 2-0 in their T20 series in May in the only short-game matches they have played in 2024.

Jos Buttler was in good touch against Pakistan, top-scoring with 123 runs, with a high score of 84.  The British bowlers all took wickets in the series with Liam Livingstone, Reece Topley, Moeen Ali, Jofra Archer and Adil Rashis all taking 3 wickets and Mark Wood and Chris Jordan taking 2 wickets.

England Squad

Jos Buttler (c), Moeen Ali, Jofra Archer, Jonny Bairstow, Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Ben Duckett, Tom Hartley, Will Jacks, Chris Jordan, Liam Livingstone, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Reece Topley, Mark Wood
