With the match unbackable it is all about the player props and how do you go past Travis Head to top score after his performance in the first match.
Young gun Jake Fraser-McGurk was bowled for a duck in the first match but look for the Aussie opener to bounce back in emphatic fashion and score 30+ runs and get his confidence back.
Xavier Bartlett has taken 2 wickets in each of his first two T20I appearances for Australia and I expect the paceman to do the same again as he stakes his claim to be the first man on deck to replace the big three for Australia in the short game.
Head to Head
Australia won the opening match of the series by 7 wickets.
Australia won by 5 wickets with 2 balls remaining in the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup in the only other match ever played between the two nations.
Scotland Form
It wasn’t a bad showing from the Scots with the bat in the opening match posting what turned out to be a very reachable total for Australia, however, their 159 runs was a decent effort.
George Munsey did his job as the opener hitting 28 from 16 runs with Matthew Cross (27 runs) and Richie Berrington (23 runs) also doing their part.
The problems arose with the ball though with Travis Heasd smashing the Scotland bowlers all over the oval. The highlight though was an impressive two overs from Mark Watt who took the wickets of Mitch Marsh and eventually Head and going for just 13 runs.
Scotland Squad
Richie Berrington (c), Charlie Cassell, Matthew Cross, Bradley Currie, Jasper Davidson, Chris Greaves, Oli Hairs, Jack Jarvis, Michael Jones, Michael Leask, Brandon McMullen, George Munsey, Safyaan Sharif, Chris Sole, Charlie Tear, Mark Watt, Bradley Wheal
Australia Form
It was a good showing from the Australian bowlers with 5 different players taking wickets showing that the attack still has the depth despite missing their three quicks. Sean Abbott took 3 wickets for 39 runs with both Xavier Bartlett and Adam Zampa both getting a double.
The show was stolen from Travis Head who scored the most individual runs in a powerplay and hit a record-equalling 17-ball fifty on his way to a match-high 80 runs from 25 balls. Mitch Marsh (39 from 12) and Josh Inglis (27 from 13) did their part at the other end with the Scotland bowlers never really challenging the Aussie batsmen.
Australia Squad
Mitchell Marsh (c), Sean Abbott, Xavier Bartlett, Cooper Connolly, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Cameron Green, Aaron Hardie, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Riley Meredith, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa
