New Zealand vs Pakistan Tips

New Zealand’s Devon Conway failed in his last innings but scored 50+ runs in two of his previous four T20 matches and deserves to be backed again. The tip for this match is for Devon Conway to score over 23.5 runs and Tim Seifert to be the Black Caps best batsman.

  • New Zealand’s Tim Seifert scored 57 runs in the 1st T20.
  • New Zealand’s Devon Conway averages 55.50 in his 4 T20 international matches.
  • New Zealand lead the 3-match series 1-0 after winning the 1st T20.
  • Pakistan are missing star batsman Babar Azam for the entire T20 series.

Head to Head

Pakistan have won five of their last six T20 matches against New Zealand but it is the Black Caps who won their last encounter. That was the 1st T20 of this series which New Zealand won by five wickets at Eden Park.  Jacob Duffy took the man of the match award on debut for his figures of 4-33.

New Zealand Form

New Zealand have been in superb form on home soil this summer thus far. They beat the West Indies 2-0 in a three-match T20 series after the 3rd T20 was rained out.

The Black Caps started the T20 series against Pakistan in a similar way as they went on to secure a five wicket victory in Auckland. This series was always going to be a more challenging one with Pakistan possessing a world class bowling line-up.

Pakistan managed to get to 156 runs batting first at Eden Park, a score that was always a bit short of par on a small ground. New Zealand didn’t have it all their own way but Tim Seifert’s 57 runs at the top of the order was enough to steer them home.

New Zealand Team News

New Zealand have used the T20’s this summer to give youngsters and fringe players a run. That is likely to continue going into the 2nd T20.

Fast bowler Jacob Duffy was magnificent on debut in the 1st T20 taking 4-33, so he is sure to get another run. The middle order of the Black Caps are all newcomers but Devon Conway, Glenn Phillips and Mark Chapman have all taken the chance presented to them.

We could see players such as Todd Astle, Kyle Jamieson and Daryl Mitchell get a run over the next two T20’s. Kane Williamson is also in the squad but whether he will be used or not remains to be seen.

Pakistan Form

Despite the five wicket defeat in the 1st T20 at Eden Park, Pakistan won’t be too disheartened by the performance. There is certainly room for improvement but the visitors did not make it easy for the New Zealand.

The major issue with Pakistan is the lack of runs in the side. Without Babar Azam they lack a world class player capable of dealing with foreign conditions so the other players need to step up and score some runs.

In the 1st T20 Pakistan lost their first five wickets for 39 runs and it was only Shadab Khan’s 42 and Faheem Ashraf’s 31 runs that got them to 153 in their 20 overs. With Eden Park being such a small ground it was never going to be enough, although it almost was.

A superb bowling effort almost pulled the game off but New Zealand reached the total with seven balls to spare.

Pakistan Team News

World No.2 batsman, Babar Azam remains out with a fractured thumb. This has caused a problem in the batting line-up which Pakistan need to fix quickly.

Their top order collapsed in the 1st T20 with Abdullah Shafique (0), Haider Ali (3) and Mohammad Hafeez (0) all failing to impress. Hafeez in particular will be looked at for runs given his vast experience.

Iftikhar Ahmed is an option in the middle order while Imad Wasim provides plenty of quality and experience with both bat and ball.
