New Zealand Form
New Zealand won the opening two T20I matches against Australia but suffered defeat in the third. That keeps the five-match series very much alive.
The Black Caps won the toss and elected to field first, a decision they would later regret. Australia went on to score 208 runs for the loss of only four wickets. Ish Sodhi was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2-32 in four overs.
Martin Guptill backed up his 98 from the last match with 43 runs as the hosts got off to a decent start. Devon Conway scored 38 runs but there was little else from the rest of the batting order.
Eventually the Black Caps were bowled out for 144 runs with more than two overs to spare. They lost by 64 runs.
New Zealand Team News
New Zealand went into the first two matches with the same team but made one change for the 3rd T20. Mitchell Santner made way for Mark Chapman.
While Chapman is likely to get another run, the hosts are not likely to make too many more changes as they seek a series victory.
Australia have kept the five-match series alive by winning the 3rd T20 at the Basin Reserve by 64 runs.
For the first time in the series, Australia batted first and scored 208 runs in their 20 overs. Aaron Finch eventually found some runs after a horrid run of form has he scored 69 runs.
Josh Philippe backed up his 45 runs from the last match to score 43 while Glenn Maxwell top scored on 70 runs off just 31 balls.
The hosts started the chase well but Ashton Agar turned the tide in Australia’s favour, taking a magnificent 6-30 in four overs. New Zealand were dismissed for 144 runs.
Australia Team News
After going unchanged through the first two matches, Australia brought fast bowler, Riley Meredith into the side for the 3rd T20. He replaced Daniel Sams and impressed, taking 2-24 in four overs.
Matthew Wade has now failed to score runs in the first three matches. The selectors seem keen to stick with him but D’Arcy Short will want an opportunity to show what he can do.
