Wellington Firebirds Form

The Wellington Firebirds finished the Super Smash at the top of the table with nine wins from their 10 matches. Their only defeat came against the Canterbury Kings in mid-January 2021.

Opening batsman for the Wellington Firebirds, Finn Allen is the top run scorer on 496 this season while he has also hit the most sixes. In the Firebirds last match, Allen smashed 73 off 35 balls while Devon Conway scored 91 runs as they posted a mammoth 230-2 in 20 overs.

The Auckland Aces put huge pressure on in the chase at the Eden Park Outer Oval. In the end the Aces fell for 191 runs, 40 runs short of their target.

Firebirds Team News

The Firebirds are firing on all cylinders and have a superb batting lineup filled with internationals. Any of Finn Allen, Devon Conway, Tom Blundell and James Neesham can produce big scores on any given day.

They are unlikely to make any changes to their side for the final.

Canterbury Kings Form

The Canterbury Kings won six of their 10 matches to finish third on the Super Smash table. That meant they had to play the second placed Central Stags for a place in the final.

The Stags batted first at the Eden Park Outer Oval and scored a very competitive 180 runs. It was always going to be a tough chase and at 38-4 the Kings looked dead and buried.

That is when Daryl Mitchell (88) and Cam Fletcher (72) came together to put on a 132-run partnership. The Kings eventually got home with one ball to spare.

Kings Team News

The Kings batsman have not been consistent but they do have match-winners in their side. Daryl Mitchell has proved his quality and Cam Fletcher is a rising star.

On the bowling front, Matt Henry and Todd Astle will certainly be a handful to deal with.
