Western Australia vs Victoria Tips

Western Australia arrive for the final game of the Sheffield Shield season looking to snare their seventh win in 11 matches to cap what has been a fantastic campaign.

Victoria have impressed this year and are now just a single win away from lifting a piece of silverware this term.

  • Western Australia won six of their 10 matches this season (L2) (Sheffield Shield)
  • WA have won two of their last five (L2) (Sheffield Shield)
  • Victoria finished with five wins and 46 points, five points short of WA at the top (Sheffield Shield)
  • Victoria have won their last five games in a row (Sheffield Shield)

Head to Head

The two sides met in the last round as Victoria came out on top in a huge morale-boosting win. They triumphed by seven wickets over the league leaders in a game that will give them a lot of confidence going into the final.

Western Australia Form

Western Australia have impressed this season, although they have stuttered somewhat in their last five games in the Sheffield Shield.

A seven wicket loss to Victoria last time out sees them come into the final on the back of a defeat, while a 164 run loss to South Australia sandwiched two wins over Tasmania in as many matches. While WA are still looking very good, they have had the feeling of being near-unbeatable taken from them.

Now, they need to look to bounce back and channel the same form with bat and ball that saw them dominate Tasmania twice in as many games, winning by 383 runs in the first match before then triumphing by nine wickets.

Victoria Form

Victoria managed to fight off competition from Queensland as they finished in second in the Sheffield Shield table after 10 matches, pipping their challengers by five points.

Five victories in their last five means they come into this one as the in-form team after beating New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, New South Wales again and then the league leaders, Western Australia.

With the best team in the competition lying in wait for them at the WACA, Victoria need to be at their very best to ensure they are competitive in this match. Early wickets with the ball in hand or a strong early partnership if they bat first is vital, with WA a side that will pounce on any fragilities of a team.

I am backing Western Australia to come out on top in this one. They have struggled of late, but you cannot keep a quality team down for long. I believe they will bounce back and claim victory, with this seeing them lift the trophy too.
