Western Australia vs Tasmania Tips

Western Australia have been in fine form this season after losing just one of their opening eight matches in the Sheffield Shield.

Tasmania sit in fifth in the table after eight games, with their two wins seeing them someway short of WA at the top.

  • Western Australia have only lost once this season (W5, D2) (Sheffield Shield)
  • WA are 11 points clear at the top of the table (Sheffield Shield)
  • Tasmania have only won twice this season (L3, D3) (Sheffield Shield)
  • Tasmania are only 12 points above New South Wales at the bottom of the table (Sheffield Shield)

Head to Head

The two sides have met twice this month. WA hammered Tasmania by 383 runs in their Sheffield Shield clash before then winning by six wickets in the One-Day Cup mere days later.

Western Australia Form

WA have been superb this season, and they are fully deserving of their place at the top of the Sheffield Shield table. Five wins have come alongside one loss and two draws, meaning they are 11 points clear at the top after collecting 42 points.

Their last Sheffield Shield match saw them completely outclass Tasmania in a supreme performance. A score of 300 in their first innings looked competitive, but it was made to look like a winning score as Tasmania were restricted to just 169. In reply, WA once again went past 300 as they notched 372/3 declared before bowling their opponents out for just 120.

Their win by 383 runs showcased exactly how far ahead of their opponents they are.

Tasmania Form

Tasmania have really been forced to battle this season, with the side slipping down to fifth in the table. Two wins have come alongside three defeats and three draws, meaning they are only 12 points clear of NSW at the bottom.

Their last run of matches has been frustrating to say the least. They were forced to settle for a draw against NSW despite dominating them. Notching 417/8 declared and 105/1 declared, they were denied the win despite bowling NSW out for 236 in the first innings as time defeated both sides.

Tasmania were then hammered by NSW in the One-Day Cup before losing to WA in the Sheffield Shield by 383 runs and by six wickets in the One-Day Cup. Tasmania could really do with a win after failing to clinch victory in any of their last five matches.

I am backing WA to secure their sixth win in nine matches in the Sheffield Shield. They have been a long way clear of any other side in the competition this year and are set to extend their lead further.
